Unfortunately when I was there everything either had died or was harvested. You definitely need to make sure you visit the right time of the year.

These are points of interest within the MDC, Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area. They change fields every year so they are rarely ever in the same locations, in back to back years that is. I grew up nearby, as a child this was cornfields from the late 50's until becoming MDC land. It's a super critical area along the Mississippi Flyway for Migrating Birds because it's reclaimed from farmland that principally produced livestock feed, it's value to migrating birds was diminished. The Sunflower fields provide habitat and food that is more natural and can re-train the imprints Birds have to remember food sources. Humans just happen to enjoy them to death, too! The MDC has done a remarkable job re-adapting this area, where the Missouri River meets the Mississippi River and Humans have handed back over that which never belonged to them? This is something right

Crowded but not hard to get fun photos. I wish the field was planted on the other side of the walkway so you’d have more fun with sunset light on the horizon.
