Salvation Army donates items directly to the homeless and others in need. They also work with social services agencies to meet the needs of families as well. I've never known for them to hand over items to thrift stores for profit. I totally understand your concern, I feel the same way actually!! Its good to actually see others that are on the same accord shining their light in the world by helping our homeless and needy people!! God bless you always and keep up with your fruitful works!!

I don't know about the utility bills but I do know that Sunday church services are awesome. Everyone should stop by on a Sunday morning and be blessed by the word of God.
