Wow! Incredible children's museum. So much to do that I discover something new each time I visit. Love the planetarium that's within the museum.

I enjoyed the training. It was very good information

I wrestled with this rating. We went on a Sunday with an infant in a stroller and a 2yo toddling alongside. There was SO MUCH to see and do! But I would be very hesitant to recommend this to anyone with kids in our age range. The noise inside was deafening. The lights, sounds, sirens, whooshes, screams, cries, music all in relatively tight quarters gave it a feel like being in a carnival fun-house. Which is great if that's what you're there for! But our little ones are still exploring the world with gentleness and curiosity, not sprints and screams. And the "please exercise social distancing" signs were ridiculous with that many people in there. You could rarely actually approach an exhibit without there being 4 others already there or right behind you. Overall, pretty stressful, but likely a good time (and more valuable for the cost) with older children.

Great thing to do with kids! Not really for the kids under one or over 14 though.

Its never to early to take little ones there. Very colorful and hands-on. They may enjoy the trains and crawl through in the animal section.
They are. But I suggest buying the tickets online. Since they are still crowd controlling due to covid, they are only letting a set number of people in for each time slot
Adults (18 & up):$11.00 Ages 2-17:$10 Military and Seniors:$10 Children under two free
Yes in the coatcheck
We just went 2 weeks ago. Everything worked fine.
Yes, all visitors and members are required to make reservations online.
Absolutely! The museum is loud and does have some moving/blinking lights. We have weighted vests and ear coverings available for kids who might need them. Check out our sensory map and other resources to improve your visit experience here: https://childrensmuseumvirginia.com/accessibility-inclusivity/
There was a sewage leak that was coming through the walls on Friday, April 8. The museum is open again now though
Tickets are $8 for everyone (kids, adults, and seniors), but kids under 2 years get in free. I'm not sure if masks are required or not.
Just saw a post that they will reopen on June 9th, with online reservations only.
I don't know I'm just a patron of the museum. That's a good question though!
I can't confirm the 5$ admission. The website says adults are 11$, children 10$. Children under 2 are free. Seniors 62+, military adults and military children get a dollar discount. Not listed on the website is that teachers with credentials are free.
$11 for Adults, $10 for kids, a dollar off for military and AAA, free under 2, free for teachers and Portsmouth city employees!
The tickets are not generally refundable, though you are able to request one. More info on that is available here: https://www.etix.com/ticket/online/help.jsp
There is a set price regardless of the day. $11 for adults and children and seniors a dollar less. And children 2 and younger are free. See the link: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/7944528/museum-admission-online-portsmouth-childrens-museum-of-virginia

I'm not sure why people are suggesting that it's not that big. It's 2 floors with lots of individual stations. I've spent 45 minutes with my 2 year old just in the train room. There's also a pretend grocery store, bank, vets office, music room, fire truck, city bus, and tug boat on the first floor alone. The 2nd floor features lots of science based exhibits.
I do this all the time and it adds another fun adventure to our trip. I typically park at the garage with the bridge that connects to the waterside and cut through waterside to the dock. $2 per person and free for kids. Get off at High St dock and it's maybe 100 yds to the museum. On the way back I usually pop into legend brewi g co. and split something with the little guy. (Food, not beer) All those things combined make for a fun day.
There are discounts for seniors and military ($1). Children under 2 are free
Im 36.. My kids are 5, 17, and 15.. My niece is 25 and her kids are 6 and 3 and I'll just say a lot if times i feel like us adults have more fun than the littles lol.. Its really an amazing place and its truly fun for ALL ages.. We stay there for hours every time we go.. I can never get my kids (all 3 ages 5, 17 and 15) out of the bubble room.. We get stuck there for like a good 30-45 mins as soon as we walk in the door. I hate bubbles lol
