This FREE place is packed with local history, that also appeals to a wider audience given the Naval shipyard’s long history with Bremerton. Lots of fun exhibits that also keep little ones engaged. It’s rarely crowded and right in the heart of downtown Bremerton by shops, restaurants, and theaters. The people at the welcome desk are also very knowledgeable about the immediate area and can give you lots of recommendations. Worth the visit.

I'm a museum nerd... They were essentially my second set of parents growing up. Given that I feel confident in saying the Kitsap history museum is a top notch museum. This is not just in the material presented there but due to the folks who operate it. I reached out to them to find information on my home and they were extremely helpful. It is a great place to learn about the area, get out of the heat/cold, and while away some time.

Amazing exhibit on Black Americana that really puts things into perspective.

Lovely museum showcasing local stories. They just updated one of their permanent exhibits and it's so nicely done. Also on display right now is a collection of Black Americana that is outstanding and powerful. Make the stop to visit. It's worth it.

Hey Nancy - Can you submit a research request via this page so our volunteers can look into it and get back to you? Thanks! https://kitsapmuseum.org/research-archives/research-request/
No, there's not.
YES IT WAS CALLED THE BAY VIEW SAW MILL , IT WAS LOCATED WHERE PENINSULA SUBARU IS NOW AND WAS THERE FOR MANY YEARS AND FINALLY SHUT DOWN SOME TIME AROUND ABOUT THE LATE 70'S IT WAS ONCE A VERY PRODUCTIVE BUSINESS IN IT'S DAY . ALSO A LOT SMALLER ONE WAS NEXT TO THE RAIL ROAD TRESTLE
Penney's and Bremers swapped buildings.
The museum is planning a tour in August there with the mayor. The Kitsap history book has more info. It's at the museum and the library.
