For a city the size of Austin , I’m in disbelief getting a simple permit is so difficult, never have I experienced such horrible staff and time tables, they’re the worst at communicating. Still waiting 9months to demo a condemned /half burned down house. The city keeps telling me I’m “almost done” but won’t allow me to finish. Brick wall after brick wall. The worst planning and development department I’ve ever worked with. It’s almost better to ask for forgiveness than permission with them. You might wait 3-9months for a response . Oh and the chat feature is a joke.

The process of getting a permit with the city of Austin is time consuming, extremely hard and expensive. Contractors will also double and sometimes triple their bids when They have to.pull a permit for your work being done. Also they have recently moved and neither Google or City of Austin website lists the new location.

They have improved the service level in tbe past few years. They are moving to a new building in June which HOPEFULLY will make it even better.

Early morning if submitting applications. Otherwise, to pick up the approved permits mornings on Tuesday and Thursdays are better.
It's sad but true, the electrical inspectors are about a week behind on inspections but they will perform after hours inspection
