I love visiting this church when I’m in San Antonio! It’s historic, and also really well welcoming and engaged with the community. Don’t miss the nighttime light show set to music displayed on the facade of the church!

What a beautiful cathedral, and the staff were quite lovely. We were very taken by the woman who was working in the gift shop. The sanctuary itself was gorgeous.

No tickets. Its a First Come, First Serve. Please arrive early to get in line. After cathedral reaches max capacity, no one else would be allowed inside.
Good evening. The Sunday Mass schedule is as follows: 8am (Spanish), 10am (English), 12pm (Spanish), 2pm (English), and 5pm (Bilingual). Please join us!
Wheelchair accessible entrance to each facility is through Plaza de la Cruz, which is like a courtyard south of the Cathedral sanctuary building and north of the City Centre building.
When San Fernando Cathedral had preservation/restoration of its painted interior surfaces of the sanctuary, it chose to remove some oews so that people are not relegated to one row or section. You can take your chair right up to a shorter pew right next to family or friends using a pew, in several places in the sanctuary. Really, the inclusive thinking that led to this is a model for many others!
There is only one accessible stall in the restroom, and the traffic flow to the sin and door is problematic because there are often people waiting in line to use the restroom.
Main Plaza in front of the Cathedral was found not to meet minimum accessibility standards after the City if San Antonio installed it in 2010; so a better route is to use the sidewalk behind the Cathedral.
The SAGA in the digital light show provided by Main Plaza Conservancy on the front of the San Fernando Cathedral. It's a colorful display depicting
the history of the main plaza and San Fernando and the courthouse under it's 6 flags. This is the first marketplace of this area
and has a rich colorful history. Bring your blanket and chairs and cooler. Usually starts at dark and and second show after.. Usually at 7pm and 9pm. Call the Conservancy for updates. Most feel it's a enjoyable event.

The reason others claim to be older than San Fernando Cathedral is that theirs were established in the United States of America. San Fernando was established in Nueva España. So then it was in México and then the Republic of Texas and existed for well over a century before the area where it is became part of the USA.
And so although San Fernando Cathedral has not moved, the geopolitical boundaries where it is located have changed many times since it was established.
