They have many hamsters and gerbils and mice that would be perfect if a small pet situation they also sell parrots if I'm not mistaken and many types of fish.

Take to vet or petco they will tell you what to do
You just return the fish and they'll give you a new one. They have a 30 day fish policy. It's kind of morbid, but bring the dead fish. They might even given you a refund, not 100% on that though
