Built in 1865, the cotton mill-'Mays Landing Power Company'-built company owned housing for their employees, a one room schoolhouse for employees' children, and a general store and coalyard where employees could purchase all of their necessities. In 1880, they also brought in the railroad, giving Mays Landing all of the essentials of a thriving 'mill town' in the Industrial Era.
