I have been seeing Dr. James for over a decade. He has been very patient with me and accomodating. I am very grateful to have him as my Dr. as he has helped me through many bumps in life. I am not the easiest patient but he always helps me. I will continue with him. Many who say that they get no answer when they call, remember that especially these days, I know of a number of Doctors do not have staff there all the time. Diane, is very accomodating and is a pleasure to deal with.

Dr. James has been a God send for me (and my wife). I have had severe mental conditions since the age of 5 (insomnia) and another that is infrequent, yet when they occur, only medical intervention will get, and keep the condition at bay. At the beginning of the year, my Dr. who had been managing my conditions stopped treating my conditions due to "New Office Policy". I spent 2 months in and out of the Emory John's Creek ER to receive 3 days of treatment at $2k-$3k per visit. The only option I had until I was fortunate enough to find Dr. James. He is a very calm Dr. Listens to you with sincerity and empathy. And now, I am back on my my treatment plan I had been on for 36 years. He is a true blessing. I cannot thank him enough. Thank you Dr. James.

Dr. James has been a lifesaver for me. I do not know what I did for so long without him. His wife Diane is just as incredible! Necie Perry

Questions & Answers

If phone calls are not returned, is one to just assume Dr James is not accepting new patients? It would be nice to know so we could look elsewhere for help.

Dr. Mark James , has a security pass code answering machine. The messages are screened by his receptionist and then communication is related to Dr. Mark James. Depending on the time of day you usually will receive a return call within a few hours. If message is retrieved late in the day ,the next day you will get a returned phone call.Concerning new patients your message is carefully gone over by Dr. James, he is a professional at his field and considers your situation and if he has a spot for a new patient you can be assured you will hear from the office. I believe it was a few days before I heard if he was able to consider me for therapy. If you read anything about seeking someone in the mental health field for help, they take in consideration if they will be able to reach you therapeutically. Each patient has different situations.I highly regard the treatment I have received from Dr.Mark James.I don't feel like I am just a number to him. He is a dedicated Psychiatrist Sincerely, LKM

Do you see adult patients with Complex PTSD?

Misty Thomas | Oct 30, 2021
Mark E. James, M.D. | Oct 30, 2021

Yes. Of course, many people with PTSD have a variety of other diagonses, so I factor in these as well. I prefer to not see individuals with dissociative disorders, as I am not so hot treating these - they need therapy with anyone whth expertise in this condition.

Does Dr James have experience with psych med adjustment for benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome/tolerance withdrawal, Ashton protocol, and other accepted practices outlined by BIC for long-term users suffering with tapers?

I know general principles but am not familiar with the protocols you mentioined. The best resource would be a board certified addictionologist.

Do you accept Blue Cross PPO plan patients?

Frank Manfre Personal | Oct 30, 2020
Mark E. James, M.D. | Oct 30, 2020

Yes, but check your card on the bottom right. If it says anything like BCBS Open Access POS. or HMO, we don't take either. Otherwise good to go. Just call Dianne at our number to discuss details.

do you offer out-patient counseling? I'm suffering from depression and I live in Lawrenceville. I need help

Vickie Simmons | Oct 31, 2018
Mark E. James, M.D. | Oct 31, 2018

I provide psychotherapy/counseling in addition to medication therapies I do psychoanalytically-informed (psychodynamic) psychotherapy and supportive psychotherapy, including any interpersonal and cognitive therapeutic methods that might be of help. I am an advocate of the biopsychosocial approach, which involves biological considerations and psychological and social/interpersonal considerations. I think I'm known around here as having expertise designing effective medication strategies but, again, I also do therapy.

Is Dr. James accepting new patients? Left voicemail messages but no return calls.

Diane Moskowitz | Oct 31, 2018
Philip | Oct 31, 2018

I don't know. Its hard to catch them by phone sometimes. Office personal comes in around 1pm to return calls and stuff. Really good Dr. so far. Has help. He is laid back and listens. You don't feel like a number like you do with others at times.

Why is it so hard to get anyone on the phone? They require a password. Who gets a password?

Monie Hunter | Oct 31, 2018
Don M Mullin | Oct 31, 2018

The voicemail box is password protected by the office. Meaning an outside source would need the password to access the voicemails left by patients. Only the staff has the password s for the security and privacy of their patients. Just leave a message and they will typically get back with you that day.

does this doctor see kids and do they accept care source insurance

Lindsey Bowles | Oct 31, 2018
Mark E. James, M.D. | Oct 31, 2018

Hi. I appreciate your question. I see only adults. For kids, utilizing Care Source, I can only recommend checking their provider list and looking up the doctors they list.
