This place is a mess. I don’t know who runs this or is in charge, but it definitely needs a visit by the health inspector and evaluated as a whole. I am definitely going to report this facility. Do not bring your family here. It appears unsafe and is heavily understaffed. Edit: In my post haste I didn’t even get to discuss the severity of this situation. In the beginning I wanted to give the care staff the benefit of the doubt because I could clearly see it was understaffed and I understand the difficulties that come along with a care facility, but the truth of the matter is this place should not be open and the people working there should not have anything to do with caring for another human being. This place was the reason nursing homes get such a bad reputation. It is the epitome of abuse and negligence. Let’s start from the beginning. This place is severely unkempt. Anyone, and I mean anyone could come and go as they please because there is absolutely no security in place whatsoever. Entering the facility there was no staff in sight. When you venture further into the facility you’ll eventually reach the dining area where the staff linger and gossip. The nursing desk had no staff, medicine carts just left unattended with shoddy locks, residents meandering all over the place unsupervised and some clearly experiencing mental episodes. When I visited my family member and she complained of pain and hunger, we attempted to track down anyone who worked there and they all could not walk the opposite direction fast enough. The staff appeared untrained, unprofessional, and unhelpful. They were rude and defensive. Quick to make claims about care and compassion and yet displayed none of that to anyone. The nurse in charge of my family member not only admitted to elderly abuse, but also admitted to falsely charting medication she did not administer. She said “I marked that I gave this one to her, but I never did.” When we pointed out the pain and discomfort my family member was experiencing, instead of asking for information, the nurse quickly said “she’s never said anything.” She also said when the patients don’t want to eat she will forcefully “shove the spoon in their mouth.” I explained that if she is speaking with the patients the way she is speaking to me, I would not want her anywhere near me. We explained that our family member has a language barrier and trouble with self-care, trouble swallowing along with her pain, and yet you expect her to be able to swallow pills and eat on her own? The nurse even complained at how much time she has to spend on one person. I cannot stress enough that none of the employees of this facility should ever have anything to do with healthcare. Training and review will do nothing for this place. It needs to be shut down and employees should be barred from ever working in healthcare. This place has me sick to my stomach and I have reported it to the state and will continue to do so until it is shut down. It is sick and cruel and disgusting. Not to mention the fake reviews on this place from employees. I can’t believe this was a state recommended facility. The state assigned her to this facility because, yes, we do not have the money to pay for an expensive facility, but this place should not exist. They told us our family member has a week to live, I feel like they’re doing all they can to make sure it’s way less than that. This place reeks of cruel and unusual punishment.

My brother, Brent, has been at this facility for about a month now. I went to visit him about two weeks ago. Lots of activities happening. I was most impressed with all of the help. The staff and nurses were positive and cheerful, the hallway walls were decorated with upcoming events and celebrated holidays. The facility had lots of space for my brother to go and relax if he wanted to leave his room, including a safe outdoor area. When I call the facility, I am transferred to my brother's room by the staff walking over to his room with a cordless phone he can use since he does not have a cell phone. I am grateful that a place like this exists for folks recovering from strokes, etc. Thank you, University Heights crew!
