Where do I begin... When we went into the place, I could barely stand the stench of weeks/months/years of neglect. It was so bad that I had to step outside, else I would have added to the horrid smell by purging my lunch in the middle of the floor. I was able to finally go back in, but I had to use my shirt to cover my nose so as not to be sick. Then, the lady, instead of asking me, asks my party why I had my face covered.... It was because you all haven't cleaned this place in ages, and people who aren't used to wallowing in filth can smell it... My mother came in to adopt an animal and brought her landlord who was accommodating and informed the middle-aged woman that my mother was allowed to have the pet on the premises. They had my mother fill out some type of questionnaire/application and then they happily accepted it as well as her $25.00 deposit. Over the next week, the agency called my mother's references (including the landlord) who had only positive things to say about how she would care for the pet. She has had pets to last over 20 years because she cares that much for them. Well, after a week, my mother has heard nothing. She reaches out to them, and after FINALLY getting an answer, they tell her that her "application was incomplete." First of all, if the application were incomplete, why didn't you tell her that before you accepted the incomplete document as well as her $25.00 deposit? They then proceed to CALL THE LANDLORD again asking if it was okay that my mother had a pet at her place... Funny, they didn't reach out to any of her other references again. Another week goes by with my mother calling these scammers repeatedly inquiring about the pet and where they were at in the process. After dodging her calls, they finally answer and tell her that "the lady that would be working on her case would be in the office in the next week," while also telling my mother that she did not know where the lady left off. Such a lack of communication. My mother finally said that she did not want a pet from that place because she got so fed up and that she wanted her deposit back... To which these people explained "the deposit is non-refundable." If you all were not going to allow her to adopt a pet, then you should not have had her waste her time... There could be absolutely no other reason that she was not allowed to do so except that she is black, and clearly a person's racial history and/or ethnicity is the deciding factor in receiving and loving a pet from this poor excuse for an animal rescue facility. The women there are rude. The place smells and is clearly unkept. This business's discriminatory tactics are obvious. I also find it funny that there is no ethnic representation on the company's website. I will NEVER set foot in this place or recommend this place to anyone. Stay away, far away, unless you're white, then you'll have a pet the same day.

My family and I rescued Money (now Koda) from Almost Home a few months ago and we couldn't be happier! He quickly became a great new addition to our family! The adoption process was extremely efficient, and you could tell all the volunteers took great care in finding each animal the perfect home. I will be recommending this shelter to anyone that is looking to rescue! Thank you so much Almost Home!!!

Never had a problem yet. These people are amazing. Helping people and animals are basically the greatest, and most important things you can do in life in my opinion. Thank god for people and places like this.

We accept HS students who are looking for community service. Tasks are limited to socializing with the cats and cleaning in various aspects.
Yes! I've volunteered and fostered with them and can attest to their integrity and genuine love of dogs. From their advocacy efforts to their truly awesome Training Wheels program to their thorough adoption process, Almost Home does great work. They work hard to match the right dog to the right person in the right situation. Good luck in finding your new friend!
If you are looking for a small dog try four little paws rescue in Southport Connecticut
I don't know not very helpful people I would question if they even love animals.
Please visit our website at www.almosthomeli.org to see all of our adoptable animals.
Our volunteers do have certain privileges such as this that would need to be approved by our staff. If you would like to become a volunteer please go to our website and fill out a volunteer application. After that is processed our coordinator will invite you to orientation and safety training. Please visit our site for more information www.almosthomeli.org
No, we do not.
At this time we do not have guinea pigs available for adoption. Please follow us on our social media as that is where we post them when we have them for adoption.
Contact the Rescue Directly and speak to them
If you are interested in fostering please submit an application via our website and we will be happy to discuss the details with you furthers www.almosthomeli.org
Our foster program does not work in the capacity in which you are looking for. Essentially you are looking for a boarding facility. Have you tried your veterinarian?
We are processing an application for her.
Where did this little pup get lost? Last seen where? Keep posting on all social media, include a pic and details. Make posters to put up around the area.. local stores etc. Contact local animal shelters, and veterinarians. Theres even a petfinder.com..dont give up, i work at almost home animal rescue and many animals are found with vigilance on behalf of the pet owner. i hope she finds him. Is he chipped? Maybe someone found him and doesn't know where he belongs. Good luck
I can't speak for Almost Home. I suggest you call them.
Also try Islip Animal Shelter..they have many Bunnies looking for a good home, and all are fixed..
A friend just turned in a male beagle on Wednesday who she found running around on the street. VERY sweet. He was VERY hungry.
