If you have concerns whether a company is staffed by full-time W-2 employees or if they also use or exclusively use 10-99 contracted employees, you should simply ask them while you're in "shopping" mode. The primary circumstance where I would have a concern is if the company's representative is going to enter my home. I would like to know in advance who that person is, whether they've been background checked, and more importantly, if the company background "declines". You also have the right to know if the staff person is covered by the company's liability and workers' comp insurance, and if not, if they carry their own as a contract worker. In either case, the individual or company should be able to produce evidence of coverage. In summation, it's pretty common in today's economy for companies to use contract labor. Thanks for writing!
