My Mom was recently a patient at Hamot. First, she was in the ICU. Only my Dad and sister were allowed to visit her. My other sister and I were allowed to see her ONCE. Imagine having a loved one that could die and being unable to see her the rest of her stay. We (my other sister and other family members) were at times heckled when going in to use the toilet. One security guard (from the ER side) had asked if we could go back to our homes (we all live an hour to several hours away from Hamot!) and had mentioned that there were restaurants nearby when I had mentioned bathrooms.. He did talk to someone and we were given "permission" to one by one come in to use the bathroom. Later on, with new workers, the drama continued. One day I had to be escorted to the bathroom because other people were sneaking in to see their loved ones.. it was difficult at times to speak to staff on the ICU floor. There were times no one would pick up the phone and other times I would be told to call back later (my work breaks are scheduled). I was even provided inconsistent information from a doctor and two nurses about my Mom. They NEED to always have an employee on the floor whose sole job is to take calls. The employees are definitely being expected to take on too many responsibilities, which is ridiculous when UPMC has a lot of money. My Dad and sister did like the nurses on the ICU. Later on, my Mom was transported to the 4th floor and incidentally, the two visitor rule was changed. Visitors could switch out and new visitors could come in. The hospital staff on the 4th floor were grumpy as heck. Once I just needed to know if I could give my Mom chocolate milk and a nurse rudely said she could not help me at that moment. I told staff repeatedly that my Mom didn't like certain foods and even circled the things she would like on their menu. It was often ignored. When talking to staff, they kept saying her medical issue was caused by something that did not even happen. This story was not fixed--I saw the record at the hospital my Mom was sent to afterwards. When she was transported, her flowers (with vases!!) were not sent with her. Some of the flowers were still fine. When I called Hamot, I was told I was going to get a call back. That never happened. (She was transported to a hospital you can see from Hamot). Also, I don't know if UPMC owns the flower shop on their website... They charge around a 15 dollar delivery fee. Once my Dad was asked if he could take the flowers up to my Mom's room... Do what you want with this review. The flowers with the vase I purchased for my Mom before they were given to her

Wish I could rate ZERO but rated a 1, unfortunately I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone! Some nurses are nice but few not so friendly/courteous. Food service workers were nice and professional when delivering meals ! Keep up with good work! However, I went to job shadow a nurse several years ago, nurse manager, Jenn, on Trauma ICU on 2nd floor was so rude with me and told me I should be wearing scrubs, no one had told me I had to wear them in the first place when I went for job shadowing!!! No email nor phone call before hand! So, I left and never came back! π‘ I was MAD and ANGRY beyond !!! π‘π‘π‘!!!! π‘π‘π‘Nothing but negative experience of my family members went there many years ago! I saw lack of respect and lack of caring,m π€π’totally disregard of my loved ones, not well taken care by staff at UPMC hamot! They did a horrible job with taking care of my mom several years ago, she had fractured femur and was discharge probably too SOON, as she stood up, I heard cracking sounds of femur bone (not healed properly)!!! It was femur fractured as shown on X-RAY! Well duh! Why did they even let her be discharge home in the first place ??? That should have been addressed before she got discharged! She went back to Hamot for repairs and took Longer to get that broken/fractured femur to heal!! She was then Wheelchair bound for several weeks then rehab! π‘ no proper follow up with her orthopedic office nor proper care at home from home health, NOTHING!!!! She struggled at home then went back to hospital! Thatβs not the way it supposed to be that way!!!! π‘π‘her family was mad!!!! β¨Look at many negative reviews of this place, so sad and so pathetic to see so many NEGATIVE reviews! I have heard horrified stories of people who went there, they were not satisfied with care they received! No thank you! I simply go elsewhere for better care!

According to the visitation policy the patient can have two support persons: - All non-COVID-19 inpatients, including Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, and NICU - The patient should identify two support persons, who both can visit at the same time. Support persons must wear a facemask and a wristband, sticker, or tag. They may visit within the location's established support person hours. - Support persons must be at least 18 years old. No children are permitted. - Clergy and doulas do not count as support persons. They can be present at the same time as the identified support persons. - All pediatric inpatients, including UPMC Children's Community Pediatrics and Emergency Department, are permitted two support persons at all times.
Main hospital for most cardiac procedures.
Heather is Correct all Private rooms
No but discounted prices for hotels and campgrounds when you're there for a patient specifically.
Call the operator have them transfer you to the floor the patient is on and the receptionist or nurse for that floor can give it to you
Not sure but I think it's Lori's gifts. However if you stop in they are open I believe at 10 am
As of July 1st 2019 it will no longer accept it. But until then, it will. I work at hamot as a patient transporter.
The Sheraton, The Marriot, and Cobblestone Hotel are all very close to Hamot! They are all along the bayfront.
Sorry i don't work for them
Yes
You can get help with that through the hospital
Yes they do
Really don't know
I never found free parking and yes you can stay overnight
If you just call 1-800-533-UPMC (8762), Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m you should be able to reschedule
They're able to but they only do it if you can't be moved, otherwise you're brought to the dialysis unit which has beds and recliners.
Social worker
There are chairs in the rooms that you can sleep on. I would call and ask to make sure you can stay with him though
They will let stay as long as you want just do you aren't disturbing any other patients
