Fantastic afternoon on the Anacostia. The boats were already rigged when we got there (from the morning reservations), which was nice and saved us time. We used a walkie-talkie to asked to be towed out. Three hours on the water. Used the walkie-talkie again to ask to be towed in. Easy, and very fun!

Questions & Answers

Hi. We stoped by to rent a sail boat this afternoon. The attendant said they are not remting due to a small craft advisory. The sun is out, partly cloudy, winds at just 10 miles per hour or less. Why is he not.allow rental? The weather is clear.

The National Weather Service issues small craft advisories. From the NWS website: A Small Craft Advisory means winds of 18 to 33 knots are imminent or occurring. Boaters operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions. Wind gusts that strong are beyond the design of the boats and can be dangerous for even experienced small boat sailors. Its frustrating when the weather appears perfect but dock managers have the final authority for safety matters.

My son lives in Alexandria and is an experience sailor and child instructor. Does anyone know where he can donate time to teach children Opti's or beginning sailing.

DC Sail is a great place for this! They do youth programs at multiple ages and already have an established community of volunteers.
