I was on the phone with a customer service representative who was incredibly rude and didn’t seem to care or understand the seriousness of my issue. I’ve never been the type of person to care enough to write a review but the disrespect that I received was simply intolerable. This isn’t the food industry, it’s an important educational matter so I don’t understand why this situation wasn’t being treated seriously.

The negative comments on this site were very personal, mean-spirited and completely untrue. I have had the privilege of knowing many of MHEC's staff. They are way too understaffed thanks to State cuts, but they don't use this as an excuse. They work extremely hard, care deeply about the students, promote their financial aid programs and will do anything in their power to ease the process of students receiving their financial aid. It is often some of the state's colleges and universities' financial aid departments -- with the exception of most USM universities and community colleges (exception Baltimore City Community College -- a complete and total disgrace and disaster) -- that are the problem, not MHEC. MHEC is an invaluable agency for the state!

The worst experience I have ever experienced. I have been calling since 11:30am and it is now 12:19pm and have called 12 times while no one has answered my phone call to the department of higher education. The guy who was redirecting my call to their department could not reach them either after calling four times himself. After being told to try again later which at the later time I would be at work I was then told that they may or may not be in a meeting or may or may not be at lunch.

MHEC is great for the financial support that they provide to Maryland students. However, the process to actually obtain that financial support is an ongoing headache. MHEC has lost documents, not updated student accounts ,etc. When you call, it is usually at least a 10 minute wait before you can talk to some one on the phone, unless they hang up on you. Overall, MHEC is extremely unorganized and unhelpful. Please do better for our students.
