Questions & Answers

Would someone please tell me why there are no evening meetings. How do we get one going?

Any member of OA can start a meeting. Normally you would locate a meeting place first (or see if the OA office has availability on your day/time), then print the new meeting information on the OA.org website, which includes the format and readings. Then contact intergroup to get on the meeting list and to be publicized on the website and in E-cares, the weekly email. You may need to gather books if it's a literature meeting; sometimes the OA office has extras donated from other meetings. Then you start.

oaphoenix.org. Call (602) 234-1195. OA.org All meetings welcome newcomers. When you come identify yourself as a first time person and most members will share how O.A. is setting them free from the obsession of overeating, body image, bulimia, anorexia, excessive exercise... After the meeting plan to stay after so you can ask questions. Look for times (evenings and weekends available) and places of current meetings at oaphoenix.org. Good idea to call the contact person. Also call Arizona Serenity in the Desert OA Intergroup, Call (602) 234-1195.

www.oa.org for more press the question Overeaters Anonymous is not a diet club. There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively. Founded in 1960, OA views compulsive overeating as a physical, emotional and spiritual disease that can be arrested but not cured. Members seek recovery on all three levels by following a twelve-step program patterned after that of Alcoholics Anonymous. All are welcome, those who think they may be compulsive overeaters and concerned friends or relatives. Overeaters Anonymous (OA) is a fellowship of people who share the common problem of compulsive overeating. OA is not affiliated with any public or private organization, political movement, ideology or religious doctrine. Come to a meetings you will see those that have lost 20-200 lbs and kept it off for years as they work their program. I personally am so grateful for the peace and new way of looking at life. www.oa.org/
