My 80 year old aunt is currently a patient on the third floor. She is having a difficult time resting because the staff is noisy and they are constantly slamming doors. I really hope this issue will be addressed, as the care and comfort of the patients should be top priority.

There are so many positive things to say about Kindred. If you have a loved one That needs therapy this is the place you need to bring them. They are very very knowledgeable on how to help a person recover. I would like to thank all the nurses the rehab therapist and and all the administrations there. They were there every morning ask me how things were going was I satisfied with the service. The supervisors are there so if you ever need them they listen to your needs. I really don't think I would be alive if it wasn't for Kindred staff. The Patient Service Representative Adriana R would answer her phone late at night if I had any concerns. Adriana is awesome at her position. I can write and write and write all the positive an great thing about Kindred. All I can say is THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME MY LIFE BACK. GRACIAS KINDRED.

Let me start by saying this will be a thorough review, acknowledging that real life is full of nuance, and a few stars or simple words labeling things “good” or “bad” isn’t specific enough when deciding who you can trust for care of your loved ones. 1) You should have realistic expectations about what an LTAC is. Do some research. Ask questions. Kindred is an Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital, which by design is not meant to be the same as a typical hospital with an ER. Each nurse is in charge of more patients, which means the patient will at times have to be…patient. The facility and equipment aren’t cutting edge or top-of-the-line, but it does the job. The care team is smaller, but that has a silver-lining—you get to build richer relationships with many of the staff. 2) You should have realistic expectations about what’s required of YOU (the family). If you expect the care teams to be a replacement for YOU, you’re very much wrong, and I suspect a lot of the 1-star negative reviews here resulted from this misunderstanding. If your loved one needs an LTAC, then they have probably survived an ordeal and are probably very dependent on others for care. There’s no substitute for family being by their side as much as possible. You’ll get out of this what you put into it. 3) You should have realistic expectations about what health care staffing looks like since Covid. Covid caused SO much strain and damage to the labor supply. Many good folks left the industry. Many of the new folks are younger and less experienced. And many have worked through it all, risking their lives and wellbeing, being called heros and villains by the same people who depend on them for care. Also, realize that some caregivers haven’t been through this experience with their own families yet, but some have. Empathy and kindness crosses all perceived differences. Race. Culture. Age. Language. So be humble. Be respectful. Be helpful. Again, you get back what you give. 4) Our story: My mother-in-law came to Kindred after 3 weeks of battling pneumonia, blood clots, dysphasia, and 5 types of metastasized cancer at MD Anderson. She was so weak she couldn’t lift her legs off the bed and had to go #1 and #2 in bed. She needed help rebuilding strength in her lungs, legs, and just about everywhere else. The Kindred staff dutifully cleaned her up when she was dirty, and challenged her body with respiratory, physical, and occupational therapies for 2.5 weeks and got her ready for rehab. Sadly, her breathing worsened due to either aspiration or hospital acquired pneumonia, which is not uncommon. She was eventually transferred to the ICU at Kindred for almost 5 days, and the staff there were even better. Attentive and Empathetic. With the help of a few key Drs, they improved her condition so that she could be safely transported back to MD Anderson, where only a few days later, she was transferred out of the ICU. 5) I have no doubt that she was set up for success at MD Anderson in major part due to the efforts and care from the ICU team at Kindred. In particular, our hearts are full of gratitude for the kindness, competence, and teamwork from: Broonin, Metrice, Thomas, Matt(RT), Erica(OT), Andrea(PT), Maria(PT), Dr Chow, Dr Campbell, and Dr Beheary, and many others who battled with us in room 311 and ICU9.

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful care. Especially Amber my nurse, and Jim my CNA. Those two go above and beyond for their patients. I felt cared for and appreciated here at Kindred. I want to thank all of the wonderful 5th floor staff. Kindred has been nothing but great to me.
