DO NOT COME HERE. came here for a higher level of care for a client on suicide watch, the wait was hours and hours. they barely checked on her, staff at the psych wasn’t even reading her paperwork, and was extremely disrespectful. laughed in our faces when trying to state the clients needs. PLEASE GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.

Avoid this place if you can!! Better to check directly into Mesa Springs.

The whole hospital is a joke and a shame to the state. However, the psychiatric ward seems to be one of the most unkept and careless wings of John Peter Smith Hospital. I'm a former member of the Navy. I sought treatment here after contemplating suicide for many months and coming close. The staff in the psychiatric wing are horrible. Just rude, careless, and overall they don't seem to truly realize what part of the hospital they're working in. If some of the things that had been said to me, were said to some of the other poor and hurt people in there, they would have had to call security for the trouble that might ensue. There's really nothing I can say except stand up for yourself and make it clear that you know what you're entitled to and the respect you deserve. I had multiple nurses tell me that I didn't get seen because I was sleeping after waiting 10 hours for the psychiatrist in the wait area. I asked another nurse who looked at me dumbfounded, and told me this wasn't true, she also told me that I was actually close to the top of the list at that point in time. The psychiatrist I saw was actually the best experience out of all of it. Kind, Caring, Attentive, and definitely dedicated to her patients. As I left in the very early hours of the morning, the same nurse who told me I hadn't been seen because I was sleeping was standing near the exit of the psychiatric wing. Upon passing him on my way through the exit, he tauntingly said, "Be a good boy, ok?" Truly disgusting and sick behavior. This was my first time ever reaching out for mental health treatment, and as a first experience it highly discouraged the idea of continuing treatment and I now have a strong distrust of psychiatric care staff and psychiatric facilities. I don't know if it's policy to mock patients who're already in a bad state of mind, but it sure seemed like it! I do not recommend this hospital for any psychiatric treatment. I truly believe you'd be better off anywhere else.
