You can start this trail from the Cholla Day Use Area- trailhead starts past the restroom area. The signs are very well marked throughout the trails. Once or twice, the trail randomly branches off and a narrow unmarked path forks off. Just stay on the main wider trail and you will be good. The trail climbed gradually up and gets you close the Dutchman Mountain, and you can see a nice birds-eye view of Apache Junction below. You also get cardio in, and it's very beginner friendly. I just reached the top and continued the same way back down.

What a great trip this time! Wildlife was mainly quiet; tarantula in the middle of the trail was a surprise! It was windy and cloudy; would've been happier packing a knit cap in addition to the cap seen in pics. Otherwise the weather was absolute perfection; mid Oct, so sunny at times but never so warm that leggings and boots were uncomfortable. This area also has showers and maintained restrooms as well as a dog area accessible to hikers and campers, which we hadn't noticed last time and will definitely come back for

Really nice, well marked trail. Not too challenging and is definitely something most could do. Was surprised at the amount of greenery along the way. Definitely worth a hike.

How difficult is this trail?

Moderate - alltrails gives good specs about the terrain, etc. but very basically, it's not a trail you'd necessarily want to do alone unless you're very experienced. We encountered a live tarantula and a dead rattlesnake this last time, if that helps. Preparedness is key; it's moderate to steep incline in parts and almost no shade, so take a sun hat, boots, walking stick, etc. We brought our 7 mo old Pitty and carried him part way back down; turned out to be a bit long for him
