I researched campsites in Santa Fe National park for Labor day week two months prior and found this one, and it was perfect. There was about 6 spots left during this time so I booked sites 2,3 & 4. Site 2 is small but we ended up just using it for parking and site 3 is larger and this was our kitchen area, and site 4 was where we set up our tents, so we were able to fit 5 tents comfortably in the open grass. I was worried about the gate situation closing at 8pm but we talked to the camp host, and he worked with us so we had no trouble with family arriving late. Camp host was super friendly and he does make rounds frequently. Porta potties looked like they were just emptied recently and cleaned, very nice. This places was completely booked online when I checked back later for an additional spot, but nothing ever came available. Unfortunately the recreation.gov site isn't friendly when it comes to changing, cancelling, no showing because there were half of the sites didn't show up for their reservations, and I'm sure it's because policy on the website. There is no cell service so don't rely on getting any service here, you may get a sporadic text messages from the outside but you can't send anything. Overall this is a clean and well maintained campground like other reviews have mentioned and is reservations only. I would return to this campground in the future, and I recommend it to others. I wish I took pictures to add, since most of the ones online don't do this place justice.

Interesting place. It cost $8 for a small campsite among the pines. It was advertised as not having potable water, which is true. We had portapotties near the campsite to replace the individual latrines that were out of use. The campsite was easy to get to from Pecos along maintained roads. There is beautiful river access to the Pecos River. Ainspied a heron hunting in the river pool.warly on the morning. The gate shuts at 8pm for "security purposes". I've never heard of that before. There is a fence along the perimeter that looks like a fortress. In another section, there is a metal fence with a sign declaring that we are being filmed. Are we being kept in? Or are people being kept out.

Campground was okay. We chose a spot that was right along the Pecos River but were disappointed because we couldn't see the river at all due to lots of brush/small trees blocking the river view. Although we couldn't see the river, we could hear it and that was nice. The river couldn't be seen from any of the spots in the campground. A short 5-10 minute walk gets you to the river which was lovely and the water was so clear. We stayed at spot #7 which had a 3-sided shelter which made the site more inviting and interesting. One problem we encountered was a large light in the middle of the campground right above the flush toilets that shined brightly into our camp. The light stayed on all night long so our camp and camper were always light up (not exactly how I envisioned camping to be). The light made it hard to sleep as we were expecting to sleep in the dark. Our spot was a pull-thru but we noticed some spots were right on the loop which makes for little room to get by if there's a camper parked there. There was no map available when we made reservations, however I called the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger district and they were kind enough to email me a map. We will likely not return to this campsite.

Excellent campground in the Pecos. Highly recommend reservations online prior to going. The came ground has no bad sites. However if you have an RV or Camper definitely want to try to avoid, 4, 6, 8, 11 since they are internal sites and may not have the parking space needed. However, there are sites that are better than others. Definitely 10, 12 are great as is 5. The shelter sites are 3, 7, 9, 13, 14, 15 I believe. All sites have fire pits, even the shelter sites. All are close to a water source and the bathrooms are in the middle of the circular set up campground. The bathrooms are flush toilets. They are fine. They are not the cleanest or the best functioning, but they are work fine. Overall great place- hope to go back there in the future!
