Quick in and out for title renewal
J
Worst experience I have had in a decade. Go in with a cheerful attitude fully prepared to register an out of state vehicle I just purchased for $10,025 and was forced to pay taxes based on the NADA average retail value of $19,813. I have no idea how they arrived at that figure and can't duplicate it. They said their computer automatically populates the tax due by pulling the average value of that model vehicle directly from the NADA,com website. No one asked me what the condition of the vehicle, the trim level or if it even functioned. It passed their "inspection" where the sherrif verified the VIN and looked at the mileage. I repeatedly and politely pushed back and asked for details and refused to accept the seemingly random and unreproducible tax they demanded I pay to register the used vehicle. I was shouted at by the "supervisor" behind the glass that I was being abusive to her (????). Nope, I was just persistent and calmly repeated that the tax I was being charged made no sense and repeatedly asked to be shown the law they are following. The vehicle was purchased from an insurance auction, and the seller, Progressive Insurance, had printed the purchase price on the notarized out of state title. But this was not acceptable. As a 25+ year Kentucky resident, law-abiding retiree I cannot believe what a gauntlet of aggravation this morning was. Hopefully someone will replace those people with computer terminals very soon. They are emotionally unstable and wildly incompetent.

Every time I’m there I get the wrong information. I just moved to Kentucky and I got the rudest responses when I don’t know the process after asking for more detail. The amount of times I had to pay for another add on because they didn’t inform me about my tags or a new process. Covington was more helpful. It’s upsetting to move and they assume u know the process when it very different from other states.

It's such a Shame that ever year I have to deal with such rude disrespectful staff. And it's solely the older women that work here. Anybody who knows me would vouch for my politeness. They need to do something about this ASAP. Probably the worst part about independence.

Yes
No. They recently opened back up. 😁
Yes, I believe you do, but check with County ckerk.
Yes you can. If it is from out of state, stop by the Sheriff's Office in the front for a vehicle inspection first, take about 4-5 minutes and cost $5. If it is an in state transfer, just go to the back to the auto dept and they will get you taken care of.
I'm fairly certain that they are closed every Saturday now.
Sorry not for sure on that question, you might call them and see
They close at 4
You have to go to the dmv over behind kroger for and i.d. I think you need social security card and birth certificate.
I was just there a couple days ago and they are only doing inspections. For tags you will need to go to Covington.
No appointment needed to see the sheriff's office, however everything else is closed due to remodeling u will have to visit the new Covington building
No, I just went Wednesday and ended up having to go down to Covington
Until further notice, online, by phone, or the court house in Covington is the only way .
You can only get a picture ID at the same place you go to get your Driver's License, which for Kenton County is behind the Independence Kroger.
Yes
You should be able to request a new title through the clerk office in their auto department. The request voids any previous titles. You'll need identification, VIN, and proof of ownership.
Yes anyone can renew registration.
Just your recent drivers license.
Someone in the sheriff's office will do this for her when the courthouse opens. His office is located next to the clerk.
Auto dept. in Independence is 6 tonight but the rest of the week is 4
No
