I’m very happy with the visa application process. I was a little nervous having to mail my documents in because I live outside of Illinois but I did express USPS and the total processing time for my Visa including mailing time was just under a week. I found the online application guide very helpful and was able to prepare all the documents without any issues.

The visa office is on the 11th floor. Very friendly and helpful people at the visa window. I was able to pick up my passport in person with my visa 7 days later (so I didn’t need the return envelope the website says you need). Both times I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

They operate very efficiently here. Submitted my application on a Tuesday and got my visa the same week on a Friday!!

If requesting a visa in person, will it be completed that same day, or do you need to leave a self-addressed envelope with them?

No, I dropped off and picked up my tourist visa application last week without an appointment. The visa window hours are limited, though. Check their website for the updated hours.

My husband and i would like to go to Yokosuko, Japan to visit our son who is in the US Military there. We live in Springfield Missouri, and we wonder if we might handle the visa paperwork via fax/telephone so that we don’t need to visit Chicago.
