I needed to replace all of my windows and a patio door at my house. I contacted Woodland since they carried Marvin windows. Ryan Velky from Woodland promptly provided me with a competitive quote. The installation crews did an excellent job of installing the new windows. I am very happy with the quality of their work and their attention to detail. I have not had any issues with the windows or patio door. Woodland’s installation crews were very knowledgeable and friendly and had a commitment to customer satisfaction.

I went to Woodland to get new storm doors and entry doors for my home. The quality of the products and installation is amazing and I am extremely pleased with how everything turned out. Beyond that, the team over at Woodland goes above and beyond for their customers until they are completely satisfied.

Do I need special replacement windows if I live in a high-rise condominium building in Chicago?

In most cases, when your unit is facing waterfronts, there are specific requirements that must be followed otherwise you may potentially have windows that will not perform properly due to the positive and negative pressures caused by the lakefront. In most cases, when you are ten floors or higher you will need a commercial grade aluminum window and Woodland Windows & Doors offers products from manufacturers such as Quaker Windows, Wojan Windows and other brands that will likely meet your requirements.

Will my windows be installed from the inside or the outside of my home?

Many companies will install windows from the interior. This keeps the cost down but significantly reduces the quality of the installation. The best way to install a window is from the exterior to ensure your replacement window is protected and performs to its maximum efficiency. An outside install ensures it is properly insulated, anchored, and sealed to protect the window from air and water infiltration around the frame. To accomplish this, the installers need to be able to get to both the outside and inside of the window. Another advantage of installing windows from the exterior is that the risk of damage done to elevators, hallways, and the interior of the home and furniture is reduced. Woodland Windows & Doors will install windows from the exterior as conditions allow.

Can new windows be installed during the winter months?

Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018

Woodland installs windows and doors year-round. This is actually our favorite time to install because our customers experience an instant benefit from having new energy efficient windows and doors. Our installers follow specific guidelines when completing winter installs to minimize the cold entering your home. Our installers will block off the work area(s) as much as possible, ask that you reduce the heat (to limit heat loss), and work room by room. There is a minimal time lapse between when the old window is removed and the new window is installed in the opening. Only one window is removed at a time until a new window is placed in the opening.

Can I bring my window measurements into a window dealer to get an estimate?

Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018
Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018

Technically yes, however we recommend that you generally refrain from doing so because the way you measure may or may not be the way a Dealer would measure; therefore, it can cause confusion and ultimately errors in what is quoted. A knowledgeable dealer should be able to work with you to help you estimate the cost, so you can plan your budget. At Woodland we do our best to give you a price range to work with. Before you finalize your budget or order your windows, it’s critical to have a professional measure your exact window opening.

Do I need a permit to replace my windows?

Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018

It depends on the actual extent of the work that is involved. Replacing your windows can be as simple as replacing the existing windows with “inserts” that are installed directly in the existing frame of the old window. With this type of a replacement, no structural alterations or removal of the sash is involved and a permit is not usually required. Although many towns do require homeowners to obtain local building permits, so this should be checked ahead of time. It is important to note that you must still comply with regulations related to safety glazing (glass) and emergency egress. A permit will be required if replacing your windows involves removing existing wood or metal sashes, or if alterations are made to the size of the opening.

Do I need to replace all of my windows at the same time?

Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018
Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018

Typically, windows don’t all fail at the same time, so it’s not uncommon for a homeowner to want to replace only the failed windows and delay replacing all the windows in their home. If your budget only allows you to do a partial replacement project it’s a good idea to work with a reputable dealer and installer who can sell you name brand windows that are more likely to be available when you’re ready to complete your project. Don’t wait too long as manufacturers do change their window models. Additionally, it will likely cost more per window to do the job piecemeal and you can’t expect the installer to give you the same price to replace one to two windows as he’ll give you to replace five or more at one time. At Woodland Windows and Doors, we regularly help our customers to plan and execute their replacement projects in phases.

How do I choose the right replacement windows?

Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018
Woodland Windows & Doors | Oct 27, 2018

Start by matching your existing windows if they are original to your home. This is a good place to begin because it will ensure that you stay true to the architectural style of your home. The worst mistake you can make when replacing your windows is to not match the existing window style and material. If your windows aren’t original to the home, you may want to use this opportunity to replicate the original windows in order to restore your home’s original beauty. One final thing, replacing your windows with the current window technology is an obvious choice to improve the efficiency and reduce maintenance. That’s a clear choice.
