Last year I ordered 3 packages of bees. Only 1 out of 3 made it thru the winter. The other two under performed from day one; both died before winter. This year I ordered a queen and she died before being introduced to hive. The company sent me a new one, but she never layed any eggs.

Horrific company. They shipped my bees on a Saturday. Shipping to Pa and the bees sat in Kentucky for 3+ days and died in a facility. When I called to check on the package the woman on the phone said " they are dead". She did not care at all about the efforts to help the honey bees. Companies like this should not be allowed to care for animals of any kind. As a veterinarian, I am heart broken the bees just died in a box. Never again will I have dealing with this company that truly does not care about the honey bees.

Hi Henry! Are you talking an established hive, nuc, package? You should be good no matter what you're working with as long as they get decent air flow. They don't need help staying warm but they need help staying cool. You wouldn't want to cover them with a tarp or blanket or put them in a plastic tote or anything.
