The web site did not make two items clear - that the charge included a replacement battery (I'd already purchased one that I now have to return) and the time to install a battery in a cell phone was an hour and a half (again, an unpleasant surprise).

Unfortunately, Batteries Plus Bulbs would be unable to repair this device. Perhaps try the manufacturer, or another repair shop, sorry.
If King Kong is a brand, it is one i don't know, however, they do carry a wide assortment of recharge-able and non-rechargeable batteries, including the AAA size.
They almost always have those in stock!
