Yes, for 30min you can use the dedicated Zoo parking for free. I believe you can also park on Cannon Dr and Stockton Dr for free, but please read the parking signs there carefully.
I appreciate that it is as open and natural-looking as it is. Would hate for them to put rails in near the pond - would take away from the ambiance. Personally, I love that the pathways are rugged and bumpy...nothing that a good pair of walking shoes can't handle.
No, it's not a fishing pond. On the other hand, the lagoon about a hundred yards outside and east of the Lily Pond is a popular fishing spot.
There's paid parking E of Lincoln Park Zoo, or neighborhood street parking bordering the zoo - which could be tricky if the weather's nice and everyone's going to the zoo...
