Got two pups from here. It is so sad to see how many dogs they have to care for because of the huge influx they get of animals. You can see they are trying very hard to take care of everything dispute being understaffed and over run with abandoned pets. I found the staff to be very friendly and kind even though they were so busy. They have specials where the pets cost less and they even give you vouchers to take to the vet to help with the cost of sterilising and rabies vaccination. I highly recommend going here and giving a pup a forever home. You might have a little wait time in the lobby but just be patient they are worth it!

I have called many times on a loose dog. It has attack my dog twice. Animal control will do nothing about this dog. They would not even come out yesterday when call. The dog bit my dog thru my fence and lasserated her neck. This is not rite. Now I have to fill a formal complaint to have the owners restrain their dog properly. It's been over 3 months and the man that is I'm charge of animal attacks had not came out. He told me he would be here in a day or two. Man his days or long or he isn't doing his job.

Thanks to someone (employer or volunteer) posting weekly the new arrivals I may have never have found my Roxy. She had been stolen back at Thanksgiving time. I watched so many face book groups that waiting hoping that she would be her hyper self and escape. I had almost given up on ever finding her and then there she was. A little rough around the edges and alot worn out from her adventures. And now safe a sound back home .as for who stole her and dumped her? Who knows but shame on you! What's meant to be will be. For us and you. Thank you and God bless to all who had a hand in her safe return from both me and Roxy! Wags, to Abilene Animal Shelter, THANK YOU THANK YOU SHE MEANS SO MUCH TO ME !

The inventory of breeds changes frequently. Most likely the best breeds quicker than others.
Cats and kittens. You can find pretty much any kind and age of cat there. Get new ones in everyday.

My daughter has a beautiful 2 year old spayed pyrenees collie mix she would love to be an only dog. She may have to take her to the shelter because she's leaving the state. The shelter is full so this would be a great rescue 💞🐾

Sometimes they have cats. I'm thinking the shelter charges $40. But you can look at their website and find out the cost. This should include a voucher for spaying or neutering if it's not done by them. Call them, they can help you more.
Check with them because they have what people can no longer take care of or those confiscated after an arrest. You just never know.
Yes, the shelter accepts hamsters as well. Just make sure you bring in everything the hamster would need as the shelter doesn’t often carry hamster food as they don’t receive them often.

Sometimes they have a lot of puppies. We got a Chihuahua but he was a couple of years older but that's what we wanted. He was already house trained and great with kids and other animals. We live on a farm and my Grandson just finished Radiation therapy for Brain Cancer and he took to my Grandson right away. We have other dogs and live stock and he is wonderful with them as well as everyone else.
They said they arent close to running out but are expected to be out by december 15th.

The Abilene Animal Shelter is really good avout finding homes. There is always a ton of people there wanting to adopt
If a rescue or another group doesn't tag them, they will be put down after so long.

The dogs are $80 of not sprayed or netured $35 if they are.
