I was a patient here in late may through early august, and I have to say I 100% recommend this place to anyone who is struggling with their mental health. More specifically depression, anxiety, and any kind of social disorder. The sense of community you will create here is one that will last beyond the walls of Hobble Creek. If you fully engage yourself in this program I can guarantee it will change the way you see the world, and more importantly how you see yourself. There are some awesome staff who really love what they do and you can feel it through they work with you. Donny, Caitlyn, Laura, Judi, Madelyn and, especially Carsen made my stay so much better and truly helped me in my times of need. My therapist, cameron (informally, cam-cam), knew how to help me and what interventions would help me best. He also values student feedback on what he can do better and what would make your treatment more fulfilling. He also does a very good job at mediating family therapy sessions, as they can get intense. Go to embark if you are struggling, you won’t regret it.

i got better here, not due to the staff but due to my therapist who no longer works here and myself. this place was horrible, i went through so much in those long 3 months that i was stuck there. i was scared posting this because i did get better, but that doesn’t mean anything that they did there was okay. the nurse was horrible, the psychiatrist who prescribed medication was horrible, the dietician was awful, they frequently promoted eating disorder habits, they frequently forced religious behavior onto us, they restricted food, they restricted phone calls, there are issues upon issues with the male staff. i can’t go to a hospital without having a panic attack due to be reminded of what happened there. i went camping a few months after i got out and i saw trees that reminded me of those at embark at hobble creek. i instantly went into a trauma response. they do not treat your children ethically here. they do not deserve to be open. i’m glad i came here, but nothing, NOTHING about what they did to me and several other patients was okay. i smelled shampoo that reminded me of that place and i started crying, that’s how triggering any reminder of this place is to me. i really hope they open an investigation and i really hope the rest of the people treated here get justice.

Embark at Hobble Creek transformed my daughter and I can’t thank them enough for the level of care, tools, and support that they gave her and our family. Cameron is an exceptional therapist and helped our family in profound ways. I highly recommend this place for parents looking for a safe place to send their teenager.

Questions & Answers

Why would a child go into residential care?

Embark Behavioral Health | Jan 28, 2022
Embark Behavioral Health | Jan 28, 2022

For children experiencing and struggling with mental health issues, residential care provides a healing, nurturing, and safe environment to overcome issues like anxiety, depression, psychological trauma, self-harm, social isolation, academic difficulties, bullying, family conflict, and other mental health challenges through healing 24-hour care.

When is residential treatment appropriate?

Embark Behavioral Health | Jan 28, 2022

When outpatient therapy is not enough, residential care can provide safety and stabilization. Typically, short-term programs offer more intensive and condensed therapy compared to outpatient care (more individual sessions, more group therapy, more robust psychiatric services). Short-term residential treatment is often the option if the outpatient (IOP and PHP, or In-Home) doesn’t get to the root of the issues or if the teen or young adult is unsafe at home.

While there are specific disorders such as anxiety and depression that warrant a stay in an RTC, other factors may also call for this level of care, including having educational needs that a less-restrictive setting cannot meet, lack of adequate support at home, a need for intensive treatment after receiving inpatient mental health care, safety issues, and unsuccessful outpatient treatment results.

How does residential treatment work?

Embark Behavioral Health | Jan 28, 2022

A residential treatment center, also called a residential treatment facility or a rehab center, is a place where individuals can experience 24-hour care, pursuing therapy away from the stress of their home environment. At RTC’s, people can access a higher level of care than is typically provided in individual, group or family therapy. Because many RTCs are age-restricted, many individuals find comfort, knowing they are not alone in their mental health struggles.
