Pulled in here for a quick overnight and spent the morning doing some hiking. Free camping on National Grassland. Several picnic tables, some with rock fire rings, spread around the edge of a small lake. There's also a concrete boat ramp and associated parking for vehicles with trailers. Typical vault toilets are available as well. Hike the dam, along the north side of the lake and two short trails that branch off from the end of the road near the head of the lake. For RV or van campers... this is not a typical campground with numbered pull through or back in sites. There are numerous wide areas to parallel park along the paved park road, and a loop area that is set up with parking stalls, but no place where you can park a camper next to your own picnic table and fire ring. All that said, it's really better suited to tent camping and feels more like a picnic area. The area was quiet, clean and tidy. Signage seems to indicate camping in all areas is allowed, provided you do not drive on the grass (there are dozens of signs along the roads so clearly it's been an issue in the past).

Right off the 283 Lots of picnic areas, a boat launch, a floating pier for fishing and some trails The campground area can comfortably fit 6 sites and is pretty quiet. The toilets were really bad, I chose to use the portable toilet instead. Flies everywhere and came along for the ride.

Camping at Black Kettle is like camping in a picnic area. We had it almost to ourselves on a Saturday. Pit toilets. No water. It was just what we needed. After a day on the road.

Great camping. Bathrooms are glorified porta potties no running water. Decent fishing boat launch and fishing doc's. Fire pits grills. Some camp sites are shaded. No obvious swimming beach. People clearly feed the geese so they are extremely comfortable with you and aggressive. They will raide your camp when unattended. You can get ice and supplies in Cheyenne it's a 20 minute round trip.
