Lived here for 3 years in two different apartments. There are a lot of pros and cons, but I would say overall, a good starting apartment. My experience with the office and management was quite good. Karissa is a very kind and helpful woman and I never had any bad experiences with her. My experience with the maintenance was also good: when I first moved in the water heater broke, and someone talked me through how to turn it off and it was replaced very promptly. The apartments themselves were...okay. Again, good starter apartments. For cons: the rooms were quite drafty, on windy days I could put my hand to the carpet and feel the wind coming in through the gap between the carpet and wall. There were doors in the apartment that wouldn't shut, the heater/ac unit was always incredibly dirty and smelled awful, the stove had hotspots and I needed to replace the burners, the fridge was stinky, the breaker box was covered by a shelf. For pros: I never had issues with the plumbing, the landscape was very beautiful and well maintained, heating and AC worked well (just stinky), paying rent was easy, submitting maintenance requests was easy, responses from Karissa were fast and helpful. The leaving: I broke my lease early, and it was an easy process, besides the financial pain, ha. There is a fee for leaving early, and it's not a light one, but I knew that it's a consequence of breaking the lease. What I didn't expect was the deposit costs, and that is likely my biggest gripe with Prairie Hills. I knew that the apartments are cleaned after a tenant moves out, but it was never disclosed that the cost of the carpet cleaning comes out of your security deposit. My deposit was $250 and $150 of that was taken out for the carpet cleaning, which means people are getting less than half of their deposit back. Quite the sting at the end of an otherwise mostly good stay. But overall, if I were to ever move back into the area and needed a place to stay, Prairie Hills would be my first choice, even with the cons. It is definitely a Pretty Alright Place.

This has been the worst and most disgusting renting experience I have ever had. Upon moving in the AC unit was filthy, covered in mold in dog hair. The apartment was filthy and I have had routine problems ever since I moved in. Additionally my kitchen smells like cigarette smoke from one of my neighbors smoking in their adjacent apartment when they smoke. Also, the carpet has nails sticking it out of it everywhere in sneaky places so you cut your feet and ruin your socks unless you wear sandals. Finally, Just recently I have started seeing cockroaches and haven’t heard anything from management a week after I filed a Maintenance request to have an exterminator. When I tried bringing up all these issues to the property manager, Karissa, she was tired of hearing the complaints and just told me If I wanted to I can move out but they would make me pay an additional $1430.00 to get out of the lease (I didn’t even ask to break the lease). I can’t wait until I leave this place as its unhealthy to have to live in. Please rent elsewhere.
