We spent a night at the Rio Pueblo Primitive Campground at the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument’s Orilla Verde Recreation Area. We weren’t expecting to have to find a spot at the end of the road but all of the other campgrounds were full. Fortunately our van has high clearance because the only campsite left in the campground had rocks protruding out of the ground. It turned out to be a great campsite: very isolated from road traffic and within a short walk to the Rio Pueblo (which is more like a stream).

Wow, incredibly beautiful. It's also incredibly popular on a Sunday in May, but understandably so. Get there early..

No, none of the campgrounds in Orilla Verde Recreation Area offer sewer hookups or a dump station. You would have to dump at an RV park in Taos for $8-15.
