The best Campground host, Dan. He does a great job. As for BLM management, the showers have been broken for over 2 years. The whole Orilla Verde Recreation Area was managed and maintained much better as a State Park than by the BLM. A sign above the urinal says 100% of fees collected are reinvested in the facilities? That's some bureaucratic BS.

OMG what a hidden gem!! We stayed at #4RV and it was a shady pull thru with power and water for $15! Right on the river, backed up to rock face. Gorgeous. Clean bathrooms. Showers currently closed for Covid ;-( but we pack ours so all good. Quiet. Dark skies for stargazing. Would definitely go again.

River at your front door. Coffee in the morning in the mountains. No complaints here. $15 a night for a nights stay with electric & water.

We can not thank Sue and Rodney enough for making accommodation for us on 7/7 night. We were traveling through and needed a spot to set up our tent just for the night. When all the sites proved full along the Rio Grande they found a spot for us. We also thank James from New Mexico Adventures and his 4 clients for accepting us on the large group site and sharing the shelter area to cook. So why only 4 stars? Bugs and crazy ants. There could not have been more bugs and every variety. If it wasn't for the bugs we would have given 5 stars. The bathroom with flush toilets and showers was GREAT! The showers are quarter operated $1 for 4 mins or 7 mins for $1.75. would definitely recommend. Each site has a nice shelter. All the other campers were very respectful. The Hosts Sue and Rodney were helpful, friendly and kind.

Does anyone know if a truck with a 27 ft trailer can make it around that sharp switchback coming in from the north?

Tom B | Jun 25, 2020
Suzan Kugler | Jun 26, 2020

It would be dicey - the main thing is how steep the gravel road is on the way down the hill. We took a 17ft trailer down it - no prob. Just very steep! Sorry, it cut my response off the first time!

Are campfires allowed and/or fires in grills? Does the facility have grills? Thanks!

Call the forestry service before you leave they may have closed it due to fires. We were their four days go and they closed all of Carson National Park. You can still stay in private parks. There are no fires of any kind. If you smoke it must be inside your home or car. Some stores are not selling lighter fluids, charcoal or fire wood its so bad. If you do go its first come first served. Theres a nice information center at the turn road 570. The first park has 7 rv site's with electric and water another cite has three. all the rest are primitive tent or rv. You must have a forestry approved generator with low decibles of 52. You can use propane cook stoves. Remember this, there is no dump site or sewer hook ups. showers cost a dollar for five minutes. We used a out door shower with a shower tent we purchased at Walmart. Also the water level only running about 170cfm they just released trout there and at eagle nest. The fishing was great
