Love working with David! He really tries to get to the root of the problem and works on the "whole body" not just a specific issue. Also, in addition to the acupuncture work, he talks through things and gives advice etc. so there's a mental release as well. I walk out of his office feeling very clear!

David has helped me immensely during a big transition in my life, and I look forward to continuing working with him. His practice is true holistic medicine for the mind, body, and soul. A real gem for the NYC area.

I began going to David Leeds’ acupuncture to treat neuropathy which was keeping me from walking unassisted. After the initial treatment the numbness in my feet began to go away and I was able to walk short distances. It has only gotten better over time. The additional and unexpected gift is working with David to obtain and maintain balance in my body and mind. Highly recommend!

David’s practice is such a wonderful addition to my life and an amazing introduction to 5 element acupuncture. He has lived a robust life and is very knowledgeable / experienced at his craft. Highly recommend seeing him as a kickstart to your wellness journey!

Yes, acupuncture is very effective at treating both. Through acupuncture, and the regulation of qi circulating through the meridian-organ network, clients gain emotional stability, equanimity, and resiliency to both face and overcome life’s challenges. To learn more please see arctiles I've written on both topics: Acupuncture for anxiety: https://www.davidjleeds.com/five-element-acupuncture-blog/five-element-acupuncture-for-anxiety Acupuncture for depression : https://www.davidjleeds.com/five-element-acupuncture-blog/five-element-acupuncture-for-depression
Definitely not. There are many different styles of acupuncture and many different approaches to treatment. Some styles of acupuncture, such as those commonly practiced in community acupuncture clinics, tend to be rather brief when it comes to process of diagnosis and treatment planning. Such styles are also primarily concerned with alleviating physical symptoms. Five Element Acupuncture, on the other hand, involves a more in-depth diagnostic process and aims to correct imbalances using a natural and holistic approach, focused on healing the root cause of illness. Five Element Acupuncture aims to resolve both the symptoms and the root cause of any illness.
Yes, acupunture is a safe, gentle and efective way to induce labor. You can go to my Instagram page to watch a video about a recent experiece of a client delevering her first child 4 hours after her acupuncture treatment.
The most common response clients give is: the needles feel "satisfying", or "activating." New clients are often surprised when they discover that I do not leave the needles inserted in the skin. Instead, I insert & remove the needle in one gentle, smooth motion. It takes less than a second. Clients genuinely look forward to treatment, the reason being - it's an enjoyable experience! For perspective: I asked a particular client, who initially had a great fear of needles if she thought the needles are uncomfortable. This was her response: "The short answer is No! There’s a sensation when the point is activated, but it doesn’t feel like a shot. I have a fear of needles that haunts me at the dentist and in other doctor offices, but acupuncture actually helped me work through the fear. I learned to embrace the process since the benefits of treatment were so incredible. And a year later, I'm a healthier version of myself and so happy that I did!"
Yes, five element acupuncture excels at treating anxiety. The Pandemic has been really hard for lots of people. In fact, most people have felt unsettled, uncomfortable anxious, or stressed at some point, or throughout, the past 18 months of covid. When we get stressed or anxious, the subtle energy in our body - the qi - starts to flow in counterproductive ways, which can have a negative systemic impact. This creates energetic blockages and imbalances affecting your body, your thoughts, and your emotions. As a licensed acupuncturist specializing in anxiety and depression, what is perhaps most rewarding day after day, is seeing clients regain their sense of peace, stability, purpose, and joy through acupuncture treatment.
Yes. Acupuncture is an eligible expense with a flexible spending account, health savings acount (HSA) or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA).
Yes. My practice participates out-of-network with the major providers including Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Health, as well as several other insurance companies. Being that everyone's individual plan is unique, it's best to verify that your plan covers you for acupuncture. Check the FAQ page on my website to learn how to verify if your plan is covered.
The first treatment is 1.5 hours long. I ask that you block out 2 hours just in case we need a bit more time. Follow-up treatments generally take between 60-75 minutes, and are scheduled in 75 minute time slots. Thanks for your question, David
The first session includes an in-depth intake, reviewing your medical history, personal history, and current lifestyle, followed by an acupuncture treatment. One of the aims of the intake is to provide you plenty of time to articulate your reasons for seeking treatment. The lengthy intake is done to establish a panoramic view of you, as a unique individual, and to determine what will best serve you going forward. At the conclusion of the intake, you’ll receive your first acupuncture treatment.
