Do NOT go here with anything other than an SUV or Truck of which have 4x4 or AWD. No one was within sight on Saturday 7/30/2022. There was only one campsite available prior to crossing the creek which had completely washed the road out in order to cross over to the other side. The road on the way down to the campground has eroded and is very unsafe to drive on at this point. I wouldn't drive on it with anything heavier than a car. We drove the WRX down and that was a bad decision. We did not attempt to cross the road where the creek had washed it out as it would have gotten stuck for sure. We walked up the road on the other side of the creek to see if the road conditions were any better. They are very poor and the middle of the unpaved road has a large crack all the way down. Would probably be okay for a SUV or truck but no way a car is getting up that. No matter how low the car sits. Since rain was most likely headed our way in the late afternoon we booked it out of there. I decided to drive our Manual TM WRX back up as I was not going to allow us to get stuck or fall off the road that descended into the campground. I am going to contact the state regarding the descending roads state of erosion so no one gets hurt or worse.

Free camping. Half the campground is across the creek. The water was too high to go thru with the trailer. Even if the water was lower the dip might've been too much to make it. Otherwise passable by vehicles with good clearance.

This is a sweet little somewhat primitive BLM campground. Still free but with no potable water and basic toilets. It does have a creek flowing through. Good hiking and mountain biking. Best in spring or fall as it gets hot.

Questions & Answers

Could I pull a 19' camp trailer here?

I've seen a number of trailers up there. 19' sounds pretty good. I think I've seen a recommendation for nothing over 23' and yet I saw a couple of trailers longer than that up there. Just don't have too low of clearance. Bumper pulls seem fine and fifth wheels appear to thrive. It's not real far from grand Junction so spending a half or full day driving up to scope out the area can be fun and informative.
