This is my 3rd try at Miraval Austin. Sorry to say that it is my last. While most of the staff were pleasant, it appears that they are all new or “in training”. Right from check in there were communication issues. These only got worse each day. Food was good, but much more limited than in the past years. Servers were inattentive and never were sure about what they were serving. When we asked for a simple green salad at dinner we were told “No”. Pampered people problems, but at this price point one is hoping for a little pampering. Isn’t that what a spa experience is about? I’ve stayed at the Tuscan property and it was a completely different vibe/experience….

We purchased day passes to Miraval Austin and had a wonderful experience with the spa services and activities once there, but booking the services and activities was a real pain and very frustrating. No one answered the guest experience number after multiple calls, and you’re directed to email them instead. I spent over 2 1/2 weeks getting no where with back and forth emails until a supervisor got involved. On the day of our visit we had to put down a credit card for any purchases(totally normal) but we were told multiple times nothing would be charged unless we made a purchase. What a shock it was to find a $850 pending charge that evening after not purchasing anything!! Way more than the cost of two day passes!!! Once we finally got a hold of someone the next day we were simply told it was a “pending charge” and would fall off the card within 2-3 business days. No explanation or apologize for the unexpected and unauthorized pending charge, which may not be a big deal to some of their guests but for a lot of people seeing an unexpected charge like that without notification is a big deal. I also informed several staff members about the difficulties trying to book services and activities and no one really seemed to care, but I think they would have if I was a guest spending a couple days or a week there. Again, spa and activities were amazing, but booking guest experiences customer service needs a huge improvement, and you also need to tell people when you’re going to place a pending charge on their credit cards, that wasn’t so Zen.

The reason I am giving a terrible review is because we ended up canceling our trip due to the terrible customer service we received beforehand, which is so surprising considering that this place is considered “luxury.” My girlfriends and I had gone to miraval in Tucson, arizona and had a wonderful time back in April. We wanted to check out austin’s location so we booked the hotel. They accidentally double charged my friend who booked the rooms. When my friend tried to get her money back, it took way too many calls, time, and ultimately took *weeks* for her to get a refund. It sounds like they recently changed computer systems and also sounds like they are understaffed or not doing well financially. We were so frustrated by the terrible customer service since we are paying so much to go there that we decided to cancel the whole trip and go somewhere else. The whole reason we planned the trip was to destress yet the poor customer service was extremely stressful. For all the trouble and misunderstanding, they weren’t going to even give us a discount. I truly think they’re suffering financially and do not recommend booking with them.
