Absolutely enjoyed being on the panel. I also learned a good deal about the law and how a jury works. Would highly recommend this experience!

I had an amazing time this past week at the focus group meeting for this law firm . First, off the staff was amazing & so polite . I was able to participate with several other members & got a chance to view things from both sides . I would like to participate in more ❤️ Criminal Justice is my current major & this helped me get a feel for what my life may be like moving forward .

Focus Group assessments seem very beneficial for clients. As part of a Focus Group, it allowed the firm to gain insight as to what a person's peers think (similar to a jury). This advanced identification of the strength of a case could help a client's decision to pursue the case further, as well as assist attorney's strengthen their case providing for an improved outcome.

Yes, it’s possible for you to collect compensation for damages in a truck accident even though you were partially at fault for the wreck. South Carolina follows a modified comparative negligence system in personal injury cases. This system enables you to collect compensation from a driver whose negligence caused your accident and resultant damages but allows your award to be reduced according to your percentage of fault in the crash. https://www.derricklawfirm.com/faqs/comparative-fault-in-a-florence-south-carolina-truck-accident-south-carolina-truck-accident-lawy.cfm
Your first priority after a boat wreck is to see to the safety of all passengers. Anyone who does not have a life jacket or flotation device should be given one. If you’re physically able to do so, you should first assist anyone who’s fallen into the water since the majority of boating accident fatalities result from drowning. https://www.derricklawfirm.com/faqs/what-to-do-after-a-south-carolina-boating-accident-south-carolina-boat-accident-lawyer.cfm
Yes, there is a statute of limitations for workers’ compensation claims in South Carolina, but it’s not the same as the statute that applies to personal injury claims. In many personal injury cases, you have three years to file a lawsuit (with some exceptions) against the party who caused your injury. For a work-related injury case, however, you generally may not file a lawsuit against your employer or a co-worker at any time. https://www.derricklawfirm.com/faqs/statute-of-limitations-for-sc-workers-compensation-claims.cfm
Premises liability law refers to the right for someone to file a lawsuit against a property owner if he or she sustained injuries while on the property. The injured party must prove negligence before the other side will consider making a settlement offer. https://www.derricklawfirm.com/library/myrtle-beach-premises-liability-attorneys-slip-and-fall.cfm
You might be able to sue a liable third party for a work-related injury without jeopardizing your workers’ comp claim. Because the two legal actions are completely separate, however, the process could get complicated. You’re most likely to get the compensation you need by working with an attorney. https://www.derricklawfirm.com/faqs/compensation-for-third-party-work-related-injuries.cfm
You don’t need professional photography skills to take helpful pictures. You can simply use your cell phone camera to try and get clear, well-focused shots of; the general scene, exterior and interior damage of the vehicles, and any injuries you or the passengers may have.

Yes, if you are an employee who sustains an injury while performing job duties at home, you are covered by SC workers’ compensation which almost every business with four or more employees is required to carry. You must, however, be able to convince your employer’s insurance company that your injury or illness is work-related. The short answer is no. You can’t be denied benefits for a new claim because you’ve received worker’s compensation benefits in the past. Workers’ compensation is no-fault insurance that almost every South Carolina employer with four or more employees must carry. If you’re injured on the job or develop an illness from performing your duties, workers’ comp pays for: • Medical expenses • Two-thirds of lost wages • Vocational rehabilitation • Disability care • Death benefits It’s not necessary to prove your employer caused your accident or illness. If it occurred in the course of your work, you’re entitled to benefits—and you can’t be fired for filing a claim.
Yes, it’s possible that you can be terminated—but not in retaliation for filing a workers’ compensation claim. Worker’s comp is no-fault insurance for any accidental injury or occupational illness you might suffer while performing your job duties. It covers your medical expenses and provides temporary monetary benefits lost due to being taken out of work for recovery. Your employer may not penalize you for filing a legitimate workers’ comp claim. For more information about your workers’ comp claim, speak to an experienced attorney at The Derrick Law Firm today.

They may not make this process straightforward, but it can be possible to revisit your claim and obtain the compensation you deserve. An experienced attorney can investigate your claim, provide additional information, negotiate with the insurance company, and act as a tenacious, knowledgeable advocate.

Many injury attorneys, like those at The Derrick Law Firm, work on a contingency fee basis, meaning the client only pays for the work their attorney does if the claim is successful and a settlement is reached. The lawyer and client agree upon the fee and then when the claim is settled, the insurance company pays the attorney who then takes his fee and passes the remaining funds to the client. If the case is not successful, the client does not pay attorney fees.
Wrongful death lawyers often work on a contingency basis. Using a contingency payment method means you pay no upfront money to hire a lawyer. Rather than charging you an hourly rate, the attorney instead takes payment out of the settlement won for the wrongful death.
A skilled accident attorney can help guide you through the process of appealing an insurance denial by: ● Reviewing your policy to ensure the carrier adequately covers your accident ● Investigating why the claim was denied to determine next steps in an appeal ● Acquiring medical documents to show the injury wasn’t a pre-existing condition ● Gathering supporting evidence to strengthen your case ● Collecting police statements to show the other driver was at fault ● Handling all communication with the insurance company and negotiating on your behalf while you are recovering With an attorney’s help, you may be able to appeal the denial and receive a payout or possibly show the insurer acted in bad faith. In that case, a lawsuit may be necessary, and our skilled legal team can help.
An insurance adjuster may make you an offer on your personal injury claim and tell you that you don't need an attorney. But, it is important to remember who the adjuster works for and that they may not have your best interests at heart. Their goal is to settle a case for the least amount of money possible. They may offer you an amount that is far lower than what you may receive by hiring a lawyer. Whether you choose The Derrick Law Firm or not, it is best to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney before accepting any offer, or signing any paperwork, from the insurance company. Workers’ compensation is available to help employees injured on the job, but there are exceptions. You may find it difficult to get coverage from workers’ compensation if you were hurt on the way to or from a job site due to what’s known as the “going and coming” rule. It’s important to understand how this rule works and if it applies to your situation. Contact The Derrick Law Firm for a free case review to determine if you are covered under workers' compensation.
Yes.
