This post is to raise public awareness about what can be expected during the free screenings offered by the Redford center through the health department. This is one of those " you get what you pay for" situations.. if you're a person who has issues with needles or would prefer not to have your arm butchered, you may find it worth the couple of bucks not to be traumatized. A few people were discussing their own encounters, and we unanimously agreed this was a bad experience! would not be surprised if the lack of professionalism and poor beside manner will have the program done before it has a chance to do some real good. the ladies seemed more preoccupied with socializing than performing the tasks at hand. It was an entirely off putting environment for the patients who would have preferred more privacy and less personal side conservations. I've got a personal background in phlebotomy and was personally horrified and physically hurt by the "nurse"( she actually never identified herself to myself and others I spoke with, which is highly unusually) not once but twice, lesson learned! She actually moved the needle around quite a bit to find the actual vein, this woman needs some professional training. Any knowledgeable supervisor would have been very disturbed to have witnessed not only my personal experience but that of countless others. I wrote this because I know most people won't say anything and just never come back. I almost left when I saw that the same person that had become my cautionary tale throughout the past year, would be once again poking around in my arm. I regret not going with my intuition, because it was absolutely correct. My hope is someone reads this and these ladies get some job training, their lack of professionalism speaks to inexperience not malice but that doesn't mean it should go unchecked. Very disappointed with the health department representatives today. We occasionally need a reminder that our best is expected, even when it's inconvenient.
