Fun family activity. The road on the way to the digging area is a little bumpy so drive slow! Make sure to take sunscreen and a hat. If you dig deep enough there is nice cold water to sink your feet into. Amazing scenery.

You pick a spot in the digging area and you dig. You will start finding crystals soon after your first scoop of dirt. Not a lot of facilities to clean up afterwards. I would recommend bringing a change of clothes and water to wash with afterwards. Otherwise if you like digging for crystals, this is the place for you.

Really neat place! We found a few crystals just by walking around. Unfortunately, they close it off during the colder months, so make sure you’re not making the drive out there during that time.

Had a great time. Brought our own shovels but had an easier time digging with hand shovels. Scraping the surface with moderate pressure about 10 times started yielding crystals. I imagine for some of the larger crystals you would need to dig deeper. As we are not skilled and this was our first time, we managed to find a lot of crystals, few that were perfect hourglass shaped, but had a great time doing it. I would definitely recommend trying it at least once, but wear appropriate clothing... You will be muddy/dirty and your vehicle will most likely need to be cleaned if you aren't properly prepared for the wealth of sand/dirt/clay. Bring bags to store used items in, which will help with cleanup. If you are driving long distances like we were, bring a change of clothes so you can spare your vehicle the dirt bath.

You are able to park right next to the fresh dig area. You may walk the length of a football field to find a spot away from others but it is not necessary. The ground is rather soft but I saw a couple of wagons while there. A hand trowel is best for digging. A larger shovel could break the selenite.
I would check the dig area website. I guess you could with an umbrella or canopy. The rain will give you extra water for the dig. If you use an umbrella or canopy, I would be concerned with wind. Have fun digging.
Nope, just drive up into large parking area, no checkin process. Grab your gear and walk to find your perfect spot.
Yes but they must be on a leash
