Real estate taxes are obviously due every year. I never pay attention to when they're due, but when they come in the mail, I pay them in full. Part way through the year I got a paper from the Lanc. County Tax Bureau stating that I had not paid my real estate taxes and I was being charged $700 in interest/fines. I immediately called them and told them I never got any real estate tax papers in the mail. Didn't even know they were due. (I am never looking for bills in the mail, but when they come I pay them immediately.) They said they had sent out thousands of tax bills 6 months prior, but 800 of them had apparently gotten lost in the mail and I was one of them. But no, I still needed to pay my $700 fine. I protested and suggested they call the post office and file some sort of a claim to recoup the late bills rather than charging the taxpayers for something we could not help. But they said no, there is nothing they can do. It was not their fault that the post office lost the 800 tax bills and I still needed to pay my $700 fine. So yes, I paid my late real estate tax that year and the $700 on top of it. As I was writing out my check, I kept thinking that this was a brilliant way to make extra money. Don't mail out 800 bills and then claim they were lost, and force those taxpayers to pay a huge fine. If 800 people paid a $700 fine, that was an easy $560,000 extra the district got.

Had an issue with filing my local taxes online and had to do an amended return. Called LCTCB and immediately got to speak to Angel, and he was very understanding, patient and helpful, as I explained my situation.

No contact, no explanation, garnished wages. I pay my taxes.. and some.. this is theft at the least and extortion.

They are helpful, friendly, and efficient. This is the best government office I have visited in a long time. Thanks!

Based on what you have listed here, no you would not be required to file with us, however, if you received a pre-printed tax return from us or reminder to e-file back in January, please give us a call at 717-569-4521 to update our records and remove you from the mailing list.
Taxable amounts for local Earned Income Taxes closely match the Wages and Net Profits you report to the State of PA. In PA, retirement distributions from your own investment account or pension, are generally nontaxable.
You may give us a call at 717-569-4521 to check the status of your return. Our turnaround time varies significantly based on when and how you file as we have a limited number of staff to review the roughly 275K returns we receive each year. Filing before mid March refunds take a few weeks. Filing around or at the deadline and it could take two months or so to get turned around.
We are happy to provide the local forms at our office, but we do not have the federal and state forms available as the IRS and PA DOR stopped sending us copies a few years ago. Everything has moved to Type and Print PDF's, here are the links: Federal - www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040 PA - www.revenue.pa.gov/FormsandPublications/FormsforIndividuals/PIT/Pages/default.aspx Local - www.lctcb.org/?page_id=76
NO
You are required to file a Local return as long as you are still reporting Compensation, Box 1, or Net Profits from the Operations of a Business, Box 4 on your PA Individual return. Once you have fully retired with no qualified earned income, you should mark your return "Retired", or give us a call to mark your account and we will stop sending the annual reminder.
Taxable Business Income (including schedule C) is reported as net profits on line 5 (paper return), or if you are using E-filing, under the Income tab, click the drop down after "Select a Tax Form and Click Add", choose the appropriate income type, and enter your income information there. You must select the "Long Form" E-filing option when starting on your return to enter business income.
Is still go to the same place and lctcb will correct it send it to ephrata
You only need to file with your resident county collector (York). The only situation where more than one return is needed or your filing a return out of your resident county would be if you moved between counties during the year, in which case you would file with each county you lived in during the year.
Probably. They are two separate offices. LCTCB does not accept any tax forms that are not are not their own. I would conclude from this that the two are not connected or in contact at all.
Lancaster County Tax Collection Bureau, or LCTCB
Easiest way is to drop by our office, we also follow the standard county real estate practice of, if you send a self addressed, stamped envelope with your real estate tax payment, we will send back the receipt.
