My son was referred here at the end of 2020 when he was first diagnosed at 5 years old. I’m not going to go into every little detail, but Dr. Brechtel is unprofessional, condescending, and doesn’t listen to the concerns a parent has regarding a medication she has them on. My son had a very adverse reaction to one medication she put him on, and for months I was telling her that things were getting worse and he wasn’t himself. She brushed me off, telling me that it couldn’t be from the medication, that there must be something going on at home to cause his behavior to get worse. She decided to medicate the side effects instead of just taking him off the one that was causing the issues in the first place. She had him on 4 medications! It got to the point where he was suicidal, and pulled a knife and threatened me with it. When someone from their office FINALLY called me back, they just told me to have him admitted. While he was there for a week, they called me multiple times saying they couldn’t get ahold of her. She cares more about getting paid, and just prescribing meds, instead of actually listening to the parent. And recommending self help books, and meditation podcasts. The wait time to see her was horrendous as well. She was always 45 minutes to an hour behind schedule. But don’t worry, she still got paid to waste my time. She shouldn’t be working with children, prescribing medications that could have detrimental side effects. This place is unprofessional and disappointing, considering I trusted this psychiatrist with my sons health and well being. They’re supposed to help, but that was far from what we got. It’s been almost a year since my son stopped seeing Dr.Brechtel, and he’s only on 2 meds and we’ve had zero issues. Do your research, because not every psychiatrist cares to really listen.
