As of a few months ago they did indeed take used motor oil for recycling purposes. This program has not changed from my awareness. I'm not sure that they would take any batteries for e-waste unless they are specifically car/truck batteries.
Yes. They will hook up an OBD scanner for free and get the codes. Then they will take the codes inside and give you a description of what the problem could be. Could be a sensor or gas cap. And hopefully not something worse like a transmission. They will even give you a printout of what the problem is and you can buy the part there or somewhere else or take it to a specialist or mechanic to fix it.
Oh please it is appropriate to ask saying that call first if it's not in stock they can get one or tell you where you can. They are very help. My cars a 2006 and THEY HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE PART. To the previous commenter play nice!
