This was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a state park! The employees were super helpful when we tried (and failed) to find the water area to swim in. The rock formations from the river were absolutely astounding and incredibly beautiful. We had so much fun and will definitely be returning again! There were so many hiking trails you could follow that made it still hiking, but also safe enough for just everyone to walk through. There were some tall structures you were able to "rock climb" to the top of and the view was amazing. I have shared multiple pictures of the magnificent landscape!

Such a cool place to visit! It only cost $8 for one vehicle for one day. Me and my wife brought our two dogs and stayed for two hours. Very easy walking trails to take, but also some very hard climbing areas.

Very good park north of Sioux Falls. Wish we were able to tent camp here for a night or two. Gave it 4 stars due to some areas of trails smelling like people took a leak in certain areas frequently. Not the parks fault, but some people have apparently littered.

A simply beautiful place to visit and experience a true geological marvel. The Sioux quartzite formations are amazing. We visited on a cold, windy April afternoon and wish we had had more time to explore. You won't regret visiting here.

No dangerous wildlife. But could fall off a 40 foot cliff if you tried hard enough. And there is water there, so if you went swimming drowning is always possible. However, both dangers require effort active effort, there are no passive dangers.
No. One full. One set of twin bunkbeds. A.C. and heat. Outlets too.

I was there a few weeks ago in April and it was already open
Yes there are!!! Do go early to get the best site for you and your crowd. There is a dollar general close to entrance road if u need a few supplies. Enjoy!!!
Not any swimming holes that I know of. Not sure what the swimming area is called, but you can either park in the parking lot on the left when you first come into the park and then walk to the river and swim by the rocks or you can cross over the bridge and then go swimming there with more of a beach setting. There are maps at the entrance of the park for you
When we visited two years ago we didn't have any and we were able to see everything. However we didn't do any climbing just hiking so that may be different
Yes
There's a great swimming hole with picnic tables nearby but do keep life preservers (not just floaties) on. Life can change in an instant.
Yes but I recommend kayaking for experienced individuals only as the current can be strong
I don’t believe so. South Dakota state park pet policy says no pets in cabins

There are allot of camper/RV sites. I would think you need to make a reservation and it can be done on same day of arrival. Love this park...some really near trails. Some of the RV sites are right next to bathrooms/showers. Nice and clean. Enjoy.
There is a start point in garretson and an end point on 257th st where road crosses river
There are places for campers & tents. There are also cabins to rent.
I would reserve, it would suck to get there and it's full for the weekend. It's a good place to stop on a planned trip.
Yes
Yes. Please check on getting firewood in the area as you can not bring into area from another state.
No, just a short hill on one end of the campground.
It is a state park it has beautiful rock formations, river natural rock formations picnic area really nice
Definitely worth canoeing, but I've heard you need to be more experienced because of how many rocks/the shallowness of some areas. I have no good suggestions of where to put in!
6am to 11pm. Staff hours may vary
Jumping off the cliffs are not allowed. It is unsafe and the state law prohibits jumping and diving.
No my moms boy friend jumped off one and did not die

No. Please check with the locations office. No rocks, dirt, or flowers may be removed or destroyed in this park. Please preserve Palisades. This is a historical location. There's a possibility of fines with this type of activity. I hope this answers your question.
It's open 24 hours, staffing varies by season, but summer is typical between 8 to 10 pm.
