This a great organization. Unfortunately, my grandson was matched twice with matches that didn't work out. Please, do not sign up if you can't stay committed.

A big shout-out to Alma and Shirley of Big Brothers and Sisters of Central Az for "going the extra mile" to help my sister and me.

This youth-mentoring organization is top notch, and I can speak from the perspective of a donor and a volunteer. They put great effort into matching youth and adult mentors, providing outing opportunities and support, and ways to get more involved in the agency and network with other like-minded volunteers. Big Brothers Big Sisters is highly organized and make Phoenix volunteering a treat, not to mention the immense satisfaction you receive as a volunteer knowing that you're impacting a child's life.

I cannot speak highly enough of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the experience I have had thus far volunteering in Phoenix. Being a youth mentor is a rewarding experience alone, and the staff are extremely helpful and always there to answer questions. I would recommend to anyone who wants to give back to the community through being involved with youth.

I'm not sure what the age limit is. I know that they don't work with infants and toddlers. Call the office in Phoenix. They will be able to answer your question.

There is sometimes a wait for boys. But it usually is pretty quick. There is a interview process to see if he is qualified as well.

I applied through the website and within a day or two (it has been two yrs since then!) that I got a reply. The process takes time to complete (3 to 4 mths) and rightfully so BUT it is so worth it. I am now part of a second family and love it! Such a great program that changes multiple lives.

It is a free service. The wait list is long but the staff is as friendly and helpful as can be.

Do they do pick ups for donations?

I don't know. You would have to call them. I know they normally do it once every 3 months or so.
