If I could give this place a zero, I would. Moved here two years ago, pay full price and not on housing assistance. I pay too much to live In this dump. Two weeks after I moved in, we had roaches. I am a clean living neat person, I was DISGUSTED. Homeless people dig through our trash. My water heater breaks on and off, called maintenance several times about it, they come out and reset the breaker. That’s it. It took 20+ calls to the office to get someone to come replace the heater element, and it still breaks. Now, the neighbors right across from us are drug dealers. People are coming at odd times of the night and they got raided by the police right before Christmas. Swat team and everything. Eventually were released and are right back to dealing again. Kids don’t even want to go outside anymore because of them. Last night on NYE, they were shooting their guns into the air, maybe 10-20 rounds. Unbelievably dangerous and stupid. If you love roaches, no hot water, terrible maintenance, criminals, homeless people, and being scared every time you come home, this place is for you!

No, none of the apartments come furnished
Yes, Matthew Henson does accept Section 8 & other affordable housing programs. Is it safe for an elderly lady? The area is not one of the best ZIP codes in Phoenix...Buckeye & 15th Avenue. Alarms are pre-installed in most units. So, just pay a monthly service fee -- about $30/mo. Common sense, & courtesy should prevail in all situations...
Depends on your income, but go to the MAIN OFFICE for more information
We do have some but the leasing agents will know more than I would.
Yes, if you are a HUD or Section 8 Choice voucher participant. They also participate in many different discounted rent programs.
Thank you... I had to maneuver and did a little bit and found that out thank you for confirming I wanted to see what other properties they had if any other suggestions of nice places they have I would appreciate it if not still thank you for your answer
You also might want 2 try the management company. McCormack & Baron is the current handler 4 Matthew Henson Village Apartments. Definitely send a copy of any complaints here 2 the leasing office, while being as specific as possible about your incident. Date, time, possible witnesses, whether it's a 1x occurrence, or seems 2 b common practice etc. Also, depending on what the complaint is regarding, u may want 2 send a copy of the same letter to the Better Business Bureau, & maybe even landlord and tenant Association. Definitely send it in writing, definitely make several copies, & definitely ask for some sort of follow-up with either a correction, or a response to the issues
We paid 881 for 2 bd 1 ba. They look nice, but the surrounding area, the neighbors, and dealing with the office - definitely not worth it.
Yes!
They don't have Studios. One, two, and three bedroom apartments/ townhouse.
Run far away, this place is not worth it. Them not answering or calling back is just the tip of the iceberg of fail there.
IDK, I'm a junior tech so I work maintenance, not office
There r Income requirements such as: not having TOO much monthly income/or having too LITTLE monthly income. So, ask a LOT of questions! They accept Section 8/HUD, there's a wait list for very low-income (Below poverty level) applicants to score discounted housing rates. There is also a senior building which I'm guessing probably is offering some type of lower monthly rental rate due to the fact that most elderly r on Social Security. If u r elderly, disabled, or SMI (seriously mentally ill) u have a good shot at finding a housing discount here or elsewhere. BTW, if u r eligible for ACCESS, SNAP/food stamps, etc.: u should be eligible 4 some type of discounted program providing that complex participates. Yes Lashelle this property carries one, two, and three bedroom apartments. They have a separate building for seniors only, and some units are disability apartments that are equipped for wheelchair access, shower bench, and closet adjusted height appropriate. There are generally two styles of apartments, most of the 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units are setup with first and second floor, however both have outside entrance. Incidentally, I do not work for Matthew Henson, I am a resident who has lived here for 3 years and truly want to provide helpful information that will save other Apartment Seekers time, effort, and of course money. Feel free to give me a thumbs up or comment if my review has helped you.
Ours included water abd that's it. They do have government assistance apartment program, not sure if it helps with that stuff or not. Please read my review and save yourself the headache with this place though, run away!
