A owl stepped on a transformer and blew the breaker, leaving us in total darkness. This happened around 11:40 at night. I called Roanoke Electric To inform them that we did not have power. They were out here and had power restored within 50 minutes. The lineman walked up and explained what happened. We are truly thankful to him and to Roanoke Electric. Cathy and Mike Hodges

I have lived in Roanoke Electric catchment area my whole life. As an adult now with my own home, I see why my parents always stated this bill was so high! I'm on the budget plan and I still pay 320.00 a month! My mother's house who has a ranch style home pays 418.00 a month! That is ridiculous! She's on a fixed income. About one third of her check goes to them! I understand that they are a "cooperative" which is a middle man between us and Dominion Power. So they by power from them and then pass the cost to us the customer. My father is in another area in the same county, but is under The Dominion area of service and pays significantly less than myself and my mother. I don't understand why we have to pay so much and why can't we all be under Dominion Power since all the electric services come from them. I'm looking into alternative ways to power my home.

Wow! Did we luck out! We were coming down 95 from Washington DC on our way to a dragon boat camp in Tampa. It was our first experience driving long distance in our Hyundai Kona EV. As we entered North Carolina, I noted with alarm that our car battery was running low sooner than I anticipated. We pulled into a North Carolina Welcome Center to ask directions to the nearest fast charge station, and were directed to the just opened fast charge station at an oasis filling station. Once there we met Anita Knight, the Engineering Manager for Roanoke Electric Cooperative. She told us that we were their first customers to charge a Hyundai Kona. She and her colleague then helped us to fast charge our car battery for free! It was a delightful experience meeting her and an engineer colleague. They were really helpful and welcoming, and we felt very lucky to have been rescued by such a wonderful cooperative!

I've live in the Roanoke Electric Cooperative area since 1995 and when I first moved here there were many outages with some being very long especially during hurricane season. Since Curtis Wynn has become CEO the improvements and reliability have improved exponentially under his leadership. Outages are now rare and when they do occur they are resolved much more quickly. Last summer we had a high wind/possible tornado come through which snapped four poles off. Within a matter of hours all of the poles were replaced and service was restored. The linemen are excellent at what they do and put in long hours in nasty conditions during weather events. Curtis is also very forward looking such as implementing technology improvements with the ability to reroute the grid around outages or fiber optic so rural broadband will able to get more bandwidth at a reasonable cost. I'm very please with the service I get and with the amount that I pay.
