Wow. Surrounded by so many 14ers! Stunning views all around. There is a shorter hike if you start up the pass. Bring your water and poles- you'll need them! The rains coming in the early afternoon are a sight. Plan your hikes accordingly so you don't get stuck on a high hill during a storm. Tons of wildflowers at 12k feet!

Mount Elbert is one of my favorite 14,000 foot peaks in the state. We camped right below treeline and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip. The night sky here is amazing with minimal light pollution and is a perfect place to catch the milky way in season. If you can time the journey right in the fall the leaves here can be pretty amazing as well! The hike itself can be treacherous once you're above treeline due to the constant exposure to the sun. Bring plenty of water and food for the trek. The road can be a little rough to get up to the trailhead so I would recommend a 4x4 with some decent clearance underneath due to the rocks. The parking can fill up pretty quick so the earlier you can get up here the better. The wilderness here is awesome and you can't go wrong if you're taking a few day or just a day trip up to the area!

Great hike but be careful what time of year you go. Be aware the southeast trail is very poorly marked. ( We did not see a single trail marker). Went in late April and would not have been doable without micro spikes + snow shoes. Snow drifts were well over 6ft in some spots. Beyond no trail markers this is not a very technical trail but it is very long and very steep. If you are not in decent shape I would look at other trails. If you make to the top it you will be rewarded with some amazing views.

Mount Elbert is the tallest peak in Colorado and the second tallest peak in the lower 48 states. There are a few false summits on top but once you hit the peak it feels like you are touching the sky. About 12 miles round trip this is a difficult hike so be prepared. Attaching pictures and views speak for themselves.

Depends on your hiking ability but likely around 8 hrs on the standard NE ridge route which is 9.5 miles round trip.

No entrance fee or reservation needed. However, parking fills up quickly so plan to arrive by 5:00am at the latest.

Can take a range of time depending on fitness and how accustomed you are to hiking at altitude. I'd say about 4-6 hours up and 2-3 down.
You could check conditions for Mount Sherman west side (Iowa Gulch) near Leadville. It's still too early anywhere without snowshoeing, that I know of and / or can't get to trailhead. Good Luck!
