My 7th state high point, and it certainly was stunning! A very remote peak but access isn’t hard. Could easily do in a two wheel drive car, no need for off road capability, although on a rainy day the dirt and gravel road may make you wish for one. Like the summit post entry states, THE BUGS, are a force to be reckoned with!!! BUG SPRAY! BUG SPRAY! BUG SPRAY!!! If you have a net hat, BRING IT!!! In the 7 miles to the top and back, my wife and I went through two cans of Off! They are absolutely relentless! That being said the views near the top are stunning! The vastness of the wilderness that remains relatively untouched is mesmerizing! To see that much unbridled beauty in God’s creation is breathtaking! The top is quite secluded and not much to see, but there are a couple of bald areas on the ascent that allow for panoramic views of the landscape! Have fun!!!

Thought trail was not great but just ok. Easier hikes with better views nearby. Trail has many rocks and roots making it difficult to find any flat footing. Took my 9 year old and I 4hrs and 5 min to complete round trip. Took us 2hr 15min going up and 1hr 30min coming back.

Fun to go to highest point in MN. My family did hike and lunch on "summit" in about 4 hours. We were moving though and passed many others. This is a technical hike with many rock gardens to navigate and last about mile is lots of up. Bring water, bring snacks (or portable meal). I would not recommend of you have mobility issues.

Well worth every step to make it to the top. Hike was pretty easy. The last mile incline was not bad as mount Josephine’s hike.

Questions & Answers

Where is a inexpensive place to stay close to Eagle hiking?

Camping in the State Forest would be least expensive. Followed by State Parks on the North shore (Cascade River is closest). Next would be lodging options in Grand Marais.
