What a wonderful experience. Carl, Merissa, Katherine and Hunter we're great. The beauty of the area is beyond words and alone worthy of the trip. The meals were outstanding and a wonder over a campfire. Then of course, the horses. How amazing, for a novice rider like myself, to ride for miles over mountain passes, meadows covered in wildflowers, crossing numerous streams. Let's not forget the stars! If anyone has dreams of seeing the real beauty of the Teton and Yellowstone area talk with Carl. My thanks to Carl and his Boulder Basin crew for all the memories.

Trip of a lifetime! I can't complement this outfit enough! We went out on the 8 day pack trip from Cody to Jackson Wyoming. The horses and mules were solid, well trained with great dispositions. Some really well built animals. Tack was in good shape, saddles were comfortable to ride durring those long days. The horses and mules look well cared for and appear to be seasoned veterans at this line of work. The guides new them all very well and their personalities and quirks were the topics of many funny campfire conversations. We could tell they really cared for their 4 legged coworkers. The guides were awesome! We had the privilege of being guided by the Kate, Royce and Clayton show. They are a funny trio. They guided us through this stunning stretch of remote country. All have great personalities, a good sence of humor and well versed in this line of work, many good conversations and laughs durring this trip. They took great care of us, handled some interesting situations, that occurred on the way, with ease. None of which were due to incompetence, just situations that the wilderness can provide anyone taking this kind of trip. They showed us how to pack up camp and the mules every day. We felt awkward watching them work their rears off while we relaxed so all the guests pitched in. It was a lot of fun as well, really added to the experience. We learned quite a bit on this trip. Kate's cooking is amazing! Something different each meal. Pork tenderloin, steak, chicken, fajitas, taco night, spaghetti, fresh baked biscuits, cornbread, bacon, eggs, sausage, breakfast biscuits and casserole, awesone mac and cheese, and even fresh made strawberry cheesecake and pineapple upside-down cake!!! The raspberry bars....wow! And that's just a portion of what she made for us! Mostly done by Dutch oven and grilling over the fire wich smells so good wafting through camp. While Kate cooked for us, Royce and Clayton would take us on side trips to some great fishing holes. We like to fly fish but were a bit rusty. Clayton and Royce took the time to help us brush up on our skills, fly selections and spots on the water to fish. They are very knowledgeable and patient and as a result we caught a good amount of trout. It was a wonderful all around experience, I couldn't have asked for better. The scenery, the animals, great bunch of guests and guides. Hunter drove use to the trail head. Great conversation about the area along the way. Carl was very helpful regarding what to bring for the trip, what to expect etc. He was there bright and early to pick us up at our hotel. Very accommodating and great to talk with. Anyone who's interested, there is some hiking with horses on steep slippery shale trails and other conditions so no cowboy boots!! And lots of saddle time. You will be tired by the end of the day. I highly recommend riding lessons if you have little to no experience, and getting in shape for some hiking. The last day we got hit by a snowstorm so pack for all weather. Carl, Kate, Royce, Clayton and Hunter, we sincerely can't thank you enough for taking us on one helluva ride. Kevin, Shauna & Jason Toller

Wyoming Summer Pack Trips | Oct 18, 2021

The majority of travel during the trip is done on horseback, but some minimal walking is required. Cowboy boots are great for riding, but not recommended because we dismount and lead our horses down the steeper trails in mountainous terrain (this is for the health and safety of our horses and also gives you a chance to stretch your legs). We recommend a good hiking boot or shoe with a heel that is both comfortable to ride and walk in.

Most of our trips are progressive; by the time we get camp torn down, horses saddled, and everything packed, it is 10-11:00 am. We ride a couple of hours, stop and have lunch. Then, we continue riding, arriving at our next campsite around 4-5:00pm, where we unpack and set up camp again. You can expect to ride 4-5 hours per day, covering 10-15 miles in a day. On our longer trips, we will ride a total of 70-90 miles.
