To operate you car on public roads yes you will need regular plates eventually the dealer will provide (at a cost temp. Tags). You willl also need insurance if there is a loan on the car full coverage insurance you need to ask those questions at the BMV

I had my car in last week for an intermittent problem, because I have an extended warranty they gave me a loaner car for the so they could test my car in the morning. My guess is if your car is under warranty, and it needs to stay the night, they most frequently will put u in a loaner or a rental car. Hope this helps. But I must note that I have always put in a vehicle when I really needed it. I think twice is how many times I really needed it in the past 5 years. I found a ride one or twice. No loaners for oil changes... Crazy if they did!
You have to rent one unless it is covered under your warranty
