I had a family member go to Kenwood for rehab after surgery and beside a little miscommunication during her intial admission everything else was good. Therapy really worked with her to help her regain her strength. Staff was friendly and polite and enjoyed her stay there. dhereally enjoyed

Don’t rely on any reviews of Kenwood Terrace posted prior to July 2021. That’s when new ownership took control of the facility. The new owner is a venture capital firm, and it shows. My wife was here for acute rehab following abdominal surgery. Some of the nurses, aides, and PTs were, individually, caring and professional, but were overwhelmed by the structural issues that now plague the facility. The in-house doctor was virtually unavailable. At one point, a nurse was concerned about my wife’s surgical wound, and she spiked a fever; even then, the doctor wouldn’t come bedside. Within 48 hours of being discharged, my wife was back in the hospital with multiple DVTs and a PE. Now that we know what the symptoms of those are, we realize she’d been experiencing them for days prior to discharge. Either they weren’t being charted, the doctor wasn’t reading the chart, or the doctor didn’t care. PT is limited to 30 minutes, 5 days per week. That might be ok for a residential, geriatric patient, but not for someone in their 40s trying to get back to an active lifestyle post-surgery. The VC firm now in control was clearly concerned with maximizing its bottom line. We heard rumors of staff layoffs. We know they cut back on the menu. They even changed the cable TV package to one that didn’t include network TV or local channels. Not terrible for a short term stay, but we felt bad for the nursing home residents who live there and now couldn’t even watch network TV. Avoid Kenwood Terrace. As I wrote, we came to respect several of the people there trying to do a good job in impossible circumstances, so it’s tough to offer this review. But people exploring their options should be warned.

I am a family member of a resident. My grandmother with severe dementia is currently at this facility. I have been coming to visit for the first time since the pandemic began. It has been over a year since I saw her last. I don’t even know where to begin with this facility, I would give is zero stars if I could. The staff is rude and completely without empathy for my grandmother’s situation. They treat my grandfather, who comes to visit her every day, awfully. They let my family in to visit for two days in a row (4 people), the next day, they refused to let my sister (who is 16) in to visit, claiming visitors needed to be over 18. There so called “regulations” seem to change with their moods every single day. On top of that, they refused to let us use the facility piano, which is something my grandmother really enjoys doing. They claim they give her baths 3 times a week but my grandmother becomes combative and refuses them. Clearly, they don’t understand that communicating with a dementia patient in a rushed and aggravated tone will be met with aggressiveness on the part of the patient. These patients need and deserve patient care givers, and there is no excuse for depriving them of their humanity by not washing their hair for weeks on end. There is no excuse for my grandmother’s hair to ever be unwashed, considering we are paying through the nose for “skilled nursing care.” They also have been gaslighting us about getting her a hair appointment for several weeks. I understand that there is a geriatric nursing shortage, being a nursing student myself, but there is not excuse for nurses and aides not to do the jobs they are being payed for to the best of their ability. I do not believe the patients here are being given the best care possible. It keeps me up at night knowing I have to leave my grandmother in a place like this and as a nurse, I would never treat my patient or their families like this facility has done.
